Voting for the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA) has opened, revealing nominees in various categories. Among the contenders are several singers from recent Eurovision Song Contests and national selections. Let’s explore these artists and their history with the awards.




Eurovision Contestants in the Spotlight

Switzerland’s Nemo, the Eurovision 2024 winner, has earned their first nomination in the “Best Swiss Act” category. Nemo’s victory with “The Code” marked Switzerland’s third Eurovision win.

Slimane, who represented France at Eurovision 2024 and finished fourth with “Mon Amour,” receives his second consecutive nomination for “Best French Act.

“The “Best Italian Act” category features two Eurovision representatives:

  • Angelina Mango, Italy’s Eurovision 2024 entry, who finished seventh.
  • Mahmood, a two-time Eurovision contestant who placed second in 2019 with “Soldi” and sixth in 2022 alongside Blanco. Mahmood won this MTV EMA category in 2019, while Blanco was nominated in 2022.

Noa Kirel, Israel’s Eurovision 2023 representative who placed third with “Unicorn,” is once again nominated for “Best Israeli Act.” Kirel has dominated this category since 2016, winning every year from 2017 to 2022, except for 2019 and 2023 when the category was canceled.




National Finals Participants Make Their Mark

In the “Best Portuguese Act” category, two national final alumni are nominated:

  • Bárbara Tinoco, runner-up in the 2020 Portuguese Eurovision national final with “Passe-Partout,” receives her second nomination after 2021.
  • Ivandro, who placed fifth in the 2023 national final with “Povo,” also earns his second nomination following his 2022 nod.

The Italian category showcases additional national selection talent:

  • Annalisa, a six-time participant in Italy’s Eurovision selection, with third-place finishes in 2018 and 2024, has been nominated several times and won in 2018.
  • Rapper Ghali, fourth in the 2024 Sanremo Festival, receives his second nomination after 2018.
  • The band The Kolors, participants in the 2018 and 2024 national finals, are also nominated, adding to their previous nominations.
