Latvian band Citi Zēni has submitted a song for the Latvian Eurovision national selection “Supernova 2025”, after representing Latvia and failing to qualify for the final in Eurovision 2022.
The Latvian boy band Citi Zēni, who represented Latvia in Eurovision 2022, is expected to compete in this year’s national selection. The band posted a hint on their X and Instagram accounts suggesting a potential participation in the Latvian Eurovision national selection “Supernova 2025” with the hashtag “Eurovision 2025“.
We can now confirm that the band will indeed participate in the national selection after the Euromix team contacted the band’s managers, who confirmed their participation in the Latvian selection process and their attempt to return to Eurovision!
Eurovision Song Camps: A Breeding Ground for Potential Entries
It’s worth noting that several Eurovision song writing camps took place across Europe last summer. According to unofficial reports, some members of the band participated in one of these writing camps. Was their national selection song written there? Or perhaps they wrote a song for another artist/band? We’ll know very soon. What’s certain is that their Eurovision dream continues after failing to qualify for the grand final in Turin.

Who are Citi Zēni?
Citi Zēni is a pop-rap band formed in 2020, currently consisting of five members: vocalist Jānis Pētersons, saxophonist Dagnis Roziņš, drummer Toms Kagainis, keyboardist Reinis Višķeris, and guitarist Krišjānis Ozols. Recently, former bassist Roberts Memmēns has not been appearing with the band at events and has started a solo career. The band’s name means “The Other Boys” in Latvian, but also refers to the English word “Citizens”.
In 2021, the band released their debut album titled “Suņi iziet ielās” (Dogs Go Out in the Streets), performed entirely in Latvian. In 2022, they participated in Eurovision in Turin with the song “Eat Your Salad”, ranking 14th out of 17 in the semi-final. Since then, the band has gained significant popularity and a large fan base in Latvia. They have released branded merchandise and a new album that won an award in Latvia.
How Will Latvia Choose Its Eurovision Representative?
The artists selected to compete in “Supernova 2025” will be chosen by judges comprising representatives from the Latvian music industry, event and television sectors, as well as international experts. The judges will evaluate the originality, arrangement, message, and relevance of the songs to the contemporary music scene, as well as assess the performers’ vocal abilities, potential to compete in the international pop music market, previous achievements in the music industry, and opportunities for future success.
To submit a song for the Latvian Eurovision national selection, performers and songwriters must be Latvian. Non-Latvian songwriters can submit a song, but they must collaborate with Latvian writers, with the writing group required to contain more Latvian writers than foreign ones.
Latvia’s Eurovision 2025 Participation Confirmed Amid Controversy
The Latvian national broadcaster has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, to be held in Switzerland, following a protest from the Latvian public, who signed a petition containing about 11,200 signatures for withdrawal from the Eurovision contest. In June, the vote in the Saeima (Latvian Parliament) on Latvia’s withdrawal from the competition was postponed, with the postponement made by a majority of 32 votes in favor, 24 against, and 31 abstentions.
Latvia in Eurovision 2024
Dons represented Latvia at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Hollow.” The song was chosen in the national finals after winning the title “Song of the Year.” In the grand final, it finished 16th with 64 points, which included 36 points from the juries (placing it 15th) and 28 points from the public (placing it 16th).
Latvia’s qualification for the final comes after seven years of failing to advance from the semi-final stage. Since the introduction of the semi-final system, the country has qualified for the grand final only four other times: in 2005, 2008, 2015, and 2016.
