Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Junior Eurovision 2024, to be held in Madrid, Spain. Who should win Junior Eurovision according to the editorial team?
Junior Eurovision 2024 will take place tomorrow – Saturday, November 16th, and will be held in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Spain reached second place in last year’s Junior Eurovision in Nice and received the right to host this year’s competition from the winning France. Junior Eurovision has been held since 2003 and is intended for participants aged 9 to 14. This will be the 22nd edition of the Eurovision spin-off competition, and the first time Spain hosts the contest on its soil.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Win Junior Eurovision?
Ofek Jerassi: First place – Albania: Nikol Çabeli – “Vallëzoj”
The Albanian song is very interesting, beautifully constructed, and reminiscent of James Bond movie ballads. The performance looks exceptionally polished, which is not typical for Albania in the Junior Eurovision contest. I‘m aware that Albania won’t win, Albanian songs don‘t tend to succeed much in the competition, but I think this song is the best finished product in this competition – vocally, performance-wise, and in terms of musical arrangement of the song itself.
Ronnie Glik: First place – France: Titouan – “Comme ci comme ça”
Usually, I’m not a fan of the French language, but this song entered my heart. The combination of a quiet start to a rhythmic song happens in the perfect way. It’s a catchy song and the most deserving of victory!
Ido Kizel: First place – Portugal: Victoria Nicole – “Esperança”
Portugal brought a song on a different level this year, mature, emotional, powerful, and vocally amazing. It’s a song that even fits the adult Eurovision and could possibly win there. It’s the strongest song this year in my opinion that should bring Portugal its first Junior victory.
Tal Dahan: First place – Portugal: Victoria Nicole – “Esperança”
The Portuguese song for Junior Eurovision this year could easily have been sent to adult Eurovision and even achieve a pretty good result. The song touches the heart even without understanding its lyrics, and the singer demonstrates incredible vocal abilities, not just for her age. If there’s justice, this is the winning song of Junior Eurovision 2024, but unfortunately, better songs than this have been robbed in the past in favor of French songs (which sadly might happen again this year unjustly).
Aviad Berger: First place – Spain: Chloe DelaRosa – “Como la Lola”
In such a weak year for Junior, Spain manages to stand out above masses of weak and boring ballads. After securing the hosting following France’s refusal to host for the second consecutive year, Spain pulls out an interesting and captivating song that really highlights the Junior Eurovision spirit on one hand, and brings the Spanish energy in full force on the other. Spain deserves to win on its soil, exactly 20 years after their first and only victory so far.
Roy Moreno: First place – Portugal: Victoria Nicole – “Esperança”
Portugal has never had it easy in Eurovision, but when they won for the first time in Eurovision in 2017, they did it big, and so it seems Victoria will win (or at least should, in my opinion) in Junior Eurovision 2024. A quality song that’s accessible to both young and old, and stands out greatly among all the other competitors thanks to Victoria’s impressive vocal abilities! A song that’s absolutely love at first listen and there’s none more deserving to bring Portugal its first Junior Eurovision victory!
Guy Solo: First place – Ukraine: Artem Kotenko – “Hear Me Now”
Artem Kotenko’s “Hear Me Now” from Ukraine brings a powerful message about love for home and community, expressing his personal experiences as a child growing up in a frontline city while the war in Ukraine continues. Artem, who chose the song’s name to emphasize the importance of home, tells his story through words that touch anyone who has experienced longing or is connected to their place of origin. Thanks to its unique musical style, combining upbeat pop with emotional Ukrainian folk music, along with the support of esteemed music producer Svitlana Tarabarova, the song manages to move and connect audiences from all over Europe. Beyond Artem’s stage talent, his message – to maintain strength and dreams even in difficult times – makes the song a leading candidate for victory.
Maayan Eli: First place – Malta: Ramires Sciberras – “Stilla Ċkejkna”
For first place, I chose Ramires Sciberras representing Malta with the song “Stilla Ċkejkna”. In my opinion, the song is emotional and calm without being boring or falling into the depths of kitsch. Sciberras delivers it with a pleasant and clear voice that’s enjoyable to listen to over time. I hope to see him at the top of the table in the actual competition.
Shahar Asido: First place – Portugal: Victoria Nicole – “Esperança”
Portugal’s song this year in Junior Eurovision is the most emotional, the most powerful, and I really love the use of the word “Esperança” and the combination of the Spanish language. The staging of the performance looks the best among all the performances, and I think it will convey the emotion and power of the song in the best way possible.
