Who is the murderer at Eurovision? Germany and the Netherlands have announced a unique collaboration—the production of a series titled “Eurovision Murder Mystery,” introducing a concept never before seen on television!

The German national broadcaster NDR and the Dutch broadcaster BNNVARA have announced a joint production of a new series titled “Eurovision Murder Mystery.” This series will blend the glamour of Eurovision with a detective thriller plot, offering audiences an experience never before seen on European screens. Currently, the production is awaiting final approval from the content committees of the German national broadcaster, but the new series is already generating significant excitement among Eurovision fans and crime drama enthusiasts alike.

NDR, which led Germany’s Eurovision participation from 1996 to 2025, brings extensive experience in international music productions to the project. The partnership with the innovative Dutch broadcaster BNNVARA creates fertile ground for a pioneering television experiment. While no details about the plot or characters have yet been released, it is clear that the series will aim to recreate the suspense and drama of Eurovision—this time, with a detective twist.

It’s worth noting that the German national broadcaster NDR has recently handed over responsibility for producing the contest to SWR, which broadcasts from southwest Germany. The new series may serve as a way to bring the Eurovision chapter full circle for the broadcaster, celebrating its legacy in the contest, which includes the prestigious 2010 Eurovision victory in Oslo by Lena with her song “Satellite.”

A successful “Eurovision Murder Mystery” could spark a new wave of television productions based on music competitions. In a world where brands are constantly seeking ways to innovate, merging Eurovision with popular genres such as crime, comedy, or reality TV is a natural and timely move. This innovative format may inspire other broadcasters to adopt similar approaches, and could even lead to further collaborations between countries across Europe.

Germany at Eurovision 2025:

“Baller” (translated as “Shooter”) is the song that was performed by Abor & Tynna, representing Germany at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Since they represent a sponsoring country, they automatically advance to the Grand Final, which will take place on May 17th. The song was written by the singers themselves along with Alexander Hauer and is performed in German. This marks the creators’ first Eurovision entry. Germany finished  15th in the final with 151 points.

Eurovision 2025: This was Germany’s 68th participation in Eurovision. Germany joined the competition in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won twice over the years. Germany’s last victory was in Eurovision 2010 with the song “Satellite” performed by singer Lena Meyer-Landrut.
