In a video posted on social media, Voyager, Australia’s representatives at Eurovision 2023, shared an update on the health of Danny Estrin, who was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago. Will the band return to perform for the first time since the difficult news?

Voyager, who represented Australia at Eurovision 2023, has shared a new update regarding the health of their Jewish frontman Danny Estrin, who was diagnosed with cancer nearly two years ago. Due to his illness, the band was forced to cancel shows in and outside of Australia. Now, however, there appears to be some positive progress in his condition.

Estrin announced in a video posted on the band’s social media:

“The good news is that the cancer is under control, […] It’s been two years since my diagnosis and I’m still here despite the odds. The bad news is that the side effects remain difficult, and I continue with chemotherapy every few weeks”.

It is worth remembering that Estrin surprised many in 2023 when, in an interview with Israeli media, he revealed that he is Jewish, speaks Hebrew, and has family living in a kibbutz in Israel.

Future Plans

Due to Danny’s ongoing battle, the band is unable to embark on a traditional tour. However, several select performances are planned:

  • On September 27th, Voyager will travel to Cologne, Germany, to perform at Euroblast 2025 – their only international performance this year outside of Australia.

  • On January 24th, 2026, the band will appear at Froth & Fury Fest in Perth, Western Australia, a fan-run summer festival dedicated to metal, punk, and alternative music.

  • Next year, on September 12th, the band is scheduled to perform at ProgPower USA 2026 in the United States.

In addition, it has been revealed that Estrin is working on a new television project focused on people’s passion for cars. The news was shared in a re-airing of one of his episodes from his radio and podcast program Conversations, broadcast on ABC.

The Show Must Go On

Despite health challenges and personal struggles, Voyager continues to fight, make music, and perform for fans around the globe. Danny Estrin manages to radiate strength and optimism even in difficult moments, and his message is clear: life and art must go on. The announcements of new performances and a television project prove that the band is not only surviving – they are thriving.

Voyager – Who Are You?

The band was formed in 1999 and currently has five members: Daniel Estrin – vocals and keyboards, Alex Canion – bass and backing vocals, Simone Dow – guitars, Scott Kay – guitars, and Ashley Doodkorte – drums. Over the years, the group has released seven albums, the latest being “Colours in the Sun” (2019). In 2020, Voyager attempted to enter the Australian Eurovision selection for the first time with the song “Runaway“, but they did not reach the final 10. In 2022, they competed with the song “Dreamer“, finishing second overall and winning the televote. In 2023, they represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool with the song “Promise”. Voyager won their semi-final with 149 points. In the grand final, they finished ninth with 151 points, receiving 21 points from the public and 130 points from the juries.

Australia at Eurovision 2025

“Milkshake Man” is the title of the song performed by singer Go-Jo, who represented Australia in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Australia did not qualify for the Grand Final and finished in 11th place out of 16, with only 41 points.

This was the second consecutive year in which the country failed to qualify for the Grand Final — a first in Australia’s Eurovision history — with two straight years ending in 11th place in its semi-final, each time with 41 points.

Eurovision 2026: This will be Australia’s 11th participation in Eurovision. Australia joined the competition in 2015 and got its best result at Eurovision 2016 when singer Dami Im got second place with her song “Sound of Silence”.
