The Norwegian Film Institute has announced funding for a new feature film telling the story of Bobbysocks’ historic Eurovision 1985 victory. “La det Swinge” will premiere in late 2027.

From the Eurovision stage to cinema screens: The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) has confirmed a grant of 8.8 million NOK (approximately 750,000€) to produce a feature film revisiting Norway’s first-ever Eurovision win in 1985 in Gothenburg, Sweden – four decades ago.

The film, titled La det Swinge (in English: “Let It Swing”), after the winning song by Bobbysocks, will be directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, produced by Tanya Badendyck and Rebecca Mathisen, and written by Mads Loken. It is scheduled for release in the second half of 2027.

In its announcement, the institute wrote:

“This is a true and moving story of how one Eurovision victory transformed an entire nation—from doubt and defeat to a moment of pride and unity. A colorful, musical celebration filled with humor, hope, and genuine chills.”

The Moment That Changed History

The 1985 Eurovision victory remains one of the most iconic moments in Norway’s music history.
For years, Norway had been regarded as the “loser of Europe”, finishing last six times – three of them with zero points (1963, 1978 and 1981). But that year, everything changed: the stage in Gothenburg became the setting for Norway’s first-ever Eurovision triumph, marking the beginning of a new era in Norwegian pop culture.

The winning song – blending retro rhythms with modern pop – received eight sets of 12 points and finished with 123 points, securing Norway the top spot and leaving Europe astonished. It was also the first time since 1966 that Norway had reached Eurovision’s top five.

The film’s producers promise that the project will explore not only the victory itself but also the emotional and cultural impact the win had on Norway – showing how a single musical moment became a national symbol of unity and pride.

The Grand Comeback

After the duo disbanded in the late 1980s, Elisabeth Andreassen and Hanne Krogh reunited in 2025 to compete once again in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix with their song “Joyful”. The entry placed third with 164 points, winning massive public support and reigniting affection for one of Eurovision’s most beloved acts.

Lighter” was the song performed by Kyle Alessandro, who represented Norway in the Eurovision 2025 grand final. Norway finished in 18th place overall with 89 points – 67 points from the audience and 22 points from the juries. In the televote, Norway ranked 12th, while in the jury vote, it reached 23rd place.

Eurovision 2026: This will be Norway’s 64th participation in Eurovision. Norway joined the competition in 1960 and has won three times over the years. Their last win was in Eurovision 2009 with the song “Fairytale” performed by Alexander Rybak.
