PBS has officially declared the opening of the song submission window for “MESC 2026”, through which Malta’s entry for Eurovision 2026, to be held in Vienna, Austria, will be chosen. The song submission window opened yesterday (Monday) and will close next Sunday, November 23rd, at 23:59 (CET). Along with the announcement of the window’s opening, PBS published the regulations for “MESC 2026”.
How to submit a song for “MESC 2026”?
As mentioned, the song submission window opened yesterday and will close next week. PBS invites artists and creators to send interesting and high-quality songs to the national final. Songs must be submitted through Eurovision.mt.
With the opening of the submission window, PBS published the rules for “MESC 2026”:

Singers must be at least 16 years old by May 1st, 2026.

The performing artist must be Maltese or have resided in Malta for the past 24 months.

For bands or duos, at least 50% of the members must meet the same eligibility criteria as solo artists.

At least one lyricist or composer of each song must hold Maltese citizenship or dual citizenship that includes Maltese nationality.

A singer may submit as many songs as desired, but only the one that receives the highest jury score will be selected for “MESC 2026”.

Songs previously submitted to other selections will be accepted, but only if they did not pass the first round.

Songs that have been publicly released before submission are not allowed.

Teasers for submitted songs must not be published.
“MESC 2026” scaled back slightly this year. Last year, “MESC 2026” consisted of two semi-finals and a final, while this year it will comprise one semi-final and a final. Another reduction is about the number of songs to participate in the final of “MESC 2026” – 16 songs competed in last year’s final, whereas this time the lineup will be limited to just 12 songs.
The submission window opened yesterday (Monday), November 17th, and will close on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025. Once the submission period ends, 18 songs will be selected to participate in “MESC 2026”. The 18 contestants will be revealed on Monday, December 1st, 2025. They will compete in a single semi-final on Thursday, January 15th, 2026. Voting will be split evenly 50:50 between the jury and the public. 12 songs will advance to the final, which will take place on Saturday, January 17th, 2026.
