Will Tina Karol represent Ukraine in Eurovision for a second time? According to Jamala, the 2016 Eurovision winner, Karol has high chances of winning Eurovision. Jamala herself refuses to compete in Eurovision again.
Ukrainian singer Jamala, who won Eurovision 2016 with her song “1944,” recently stated that she believes Tina Karol, who has previously participated in the competition, is the most deserving candidate to represent Ukraine in Eurovision. In her opinion, Karol has the highest chances of securing another prize and a fourth victory for Ukraine, and would represent the country with honor.
Jamala’s Support for Tina Karol’s Eurovision Return
Regarding Karol, Jamala said: “I think Karol should go. Why not? I think she would represent us very well. There have been cases where artists have returned multiple times.”
When asked if she herself ever intends to return to compete on the Eurovision stage, Jamala replied that she has no such intentions. She is in a different place now and has already achieved the victory she dreamed of. However, she’s not completely disconnecting from Eurovision and may judge again in the Ukrainian national selection, sharing her experience and knowledge.
Tina Karol’s Eurovision History and New Role
Tina Karol represented Ukraine in Eurovision 2006 held in Greece. She performed the song “Show Me Your Love” and reached seventh place. She also appeared in the Eurovision 2023 final in Liverpool, as Ukraine, the previous year’s winner, couldn’t host due to the war with Russia. Karol performed alongside Jamala and various other Ukrainian artists to represent Ukraine’s victory.
Despite Jamala’s support, Karol will participate in Eurovision differently this time, having been appointed as the musical producer of the Ukrainian national selection, Vidbir.
Tina Karol’s Reaction and Future Eurovision Prospects
In response to her new role, Tina Karol said: “I’m happy to join the national selection team for Eurovision and have the privilege to support those taking their first steps in the Eurovision world, as well as those returning for another attempt.” She adds that she is “confident we’ll see many excellent performers this year.”
Tina Karol admitted last May that she would be happy to represent Ukraine again in Eurovision. However, her subsequent appointment to the important role in the national selection might delay her future participation in Eurovision. Nevertheless, it’s possible that she’s preparing the ground for a future return.
Ukraine in Eurovision 2024
Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Teresa & Maria.” The duo won the Ukrainian national selection “Vidbir 2024” and finished third in the Eurovision final with 453 points.
Their entry is notable for being the first since 2002 to place in the top 5 while performing second in the running order, a position traditionally considered challenging in Eurovision statistics.
