After Joost Klein’s withdrawal from the race, many Dutch artists have begun to express interest in representing the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025. Who are they? And which of them are connected to the Eurovision world?

In a dramatic announcement a few days ago, Dutch television network AVROTROS declared that after much deliberation and discussion, it was decided that the Netherlands will participate in Eurovision 2025, to be held in Basel, Switzerland. Initially, even before the announcement, the television network offered last year’s representative, Joost Klein, to return and represent the Netherlands again this year, as he was disqualified just hours before the Eurovision 2024 final in Malmö. Joost declined the network’s offer, paving the way for other artists to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision. So, who are the artists rumored to be sending a song to Eurovision?

Bodine Monet

Bodine Monet, a Dutch singer known for participating in The Voice Kids, gained significant attention during Germany’s Eurovision selection process last year. She performed “Tears Like Rain“, ultimately finishing fourth as Germany chose Isaak as their representative.

Recently, Monet shared a fan-made Instagram post suggesting her candidacy for representing the Netherlands at Eurovision. She playfully teased her followers with an Instagram story asking, “Should I apply to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025?” It remains unclear whether the singer is genuinely expressing her intentions or simply capitalizing on the rumors for attention.

Snollebollekes

Snollebollekes, a group that has shown interest in participating this year, shared a suspicious photo on their Instagram account. The image featured group member Rob Kemps with the Eurovision 2025 Switzerland logo. Their level of seriousness in representing the Netherlands at Eurovision is uncertain, given their origins in a comedy program.

Their music style is a unique blend of EDM with a distinctly comedic flavor. Stylistically similar to last year’s Joost, if Snollebollekes make it to the big stage, they are undoubtedly poised to be this year’s Eurovision circus act.

Anouk

Anouk, the renowned Dutch singer, declared during her performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in June that she had written a new song perfectly suited for the Eurovision competition. “I’ve created an excellent rock song. Perfect for Eurovision, but there’s no committee anymore, so I don’t know who to send it to,” Anouk told the enthusiastic audience.

Now that the submission window for the Dutch committee has opened, the singer can submit her song. As a reminder, Anouk represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2013 with “Birds“, successfully reaching the final after eight consecutive years of the country failing in the semi-finals. She ultimately secured a respectable ninth place.

Opening of Registration

AVROTROS has announced the official opening of registration to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025 in Basel. Registration will be open until November 22nd. Singers, composers, songwriters, and record labels are invited to submit songs with the potential to win the upcoming competition to the email address [email protected]. The full regulations for song submission can be found on the official AVROTROS website. A decision regarding the representative for Eurovision 2025 is expected to be made in December.

Netherlands in Eurovision 2024

“Europapa” is the name of the song performed by Joost Klein in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2024. The Netherlands qualified for the grand final after securing second place in the second semi-final with 182 points. However, the singer was disqualified and did not participate in the grand final due to a violent incident involving him and a camerawoman from the Swedish Eurovision production team.

This marks the second consecutive time that the Netherlands has not competed in the grand final and the first time in the contest’s history that a participant was disqualified just hours before the grand final.

Eurovision 2025: This will be the Netherlands’ 65th participation in Eurovision. The Netherlands joined the competition in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won it five times over the years. The Netherlands’ last victory was at Eurovision 2019 with the song “Arcade” performed by singer Duncan Laurence.
