Eurovision 2025: The Swiss Hotel Association takes action against exorbitant accommodation prices in Basel during the Eurovision period!
The Swiss Hotel Association has decided to act against the inflated hotel prices in Basel during the Eurovision period, which we previously reported on. The Eurovision event is expected to bring a massive number of tourists from around the world to the city, indirectly causing a rise in accommodation prices due to increased demand and limited supply.
According to Swiss media, the Basel branch of the Swiss Hotel Association has introduced a new regulation to prevent excessive pricing among its member hotels. In a meeting held last November, it was decided that during the competition week, room prices in hotels would be capped at double their standard rate as determined by the Basel Tourism Authority.
In practice, this means that a room with a standard price of 200 Swiss francs per night will cost up to 400 Swiss francs per night during the Eurovision period. The agreement will cover approximately 1,000 rooms that will be released to the market in January.
Franz-Xaver Leonhardt, President of the Basel and Region Hotel Association, stated that the Hotel Association aims to protect the reputation of Basel’s hotels from being tarnished for short-term profit. He added: “Basel hotels anticipate that 2025 will be a prosperous year for them, thanks to Eurovision and the UEFA Women’s Euro, both of which will take place in the city.”
This extraordinary collaboration among Swiss hoteliers, who could have reaped enormous profits, demonstrates their commitment to keeping the Eurovision event accessible to a wide audience.
