Eurovision 2025: Swiss media reveals new details about the vigorous preparations for the contest in Basel. Information about the host venue, Eurovision Village, and EuroClub has been disclosed.
Preparations for Eurovision continue at full speed, with new details about Basel’s plan to host the competition continuing to emerge. In a program on Swiss national television, new information was revealed about the host venue, Eurovision Village, EuroClub, and additional details regarding the city’s preparations to secure and host the many tourists expected to arrive.
Host Venue Preparations
Thomas Kastl, manager of the St. Jakobshalle arena, disclosed the venue’s schedule during the Eurovision period, stating that the arena will be reserved exclusively for the competition for 7 and a half weeks. Work on the venue will begin on April 7 and will include upgrading the arena’s roof, which currently can support 120 tons of equipment but will need to support 280 tons of technical equipment during Eurovision. A steel beam system will be used to meet this requirement.
Eurovision Village Plans
The Eurovision Village will be held mostly indoors rather than outdoors. Lorenz Schibler, responsible for the Eurovision Village project, revealed that over 12,000 people will be able to enter the Eurovision Village simultaneously. The village will feature a main stage, several smaller stages, food stalls, viewing areas, and booths showcasing collaborations with various organizations. The Eurovision Village is expected to cost about 2 million Swiss francs, and its operating hours will be from noon to midnight, with free entry and diverse activities.
Additionally, the “Turquoise Carpet” event, held every Eurovision week on Sunday, is expected to end at the Eurovision Village. This year’s Turquoise Carpet event is anticipated to be the largest in Eurovision history.
EuroClub Details
The EuroClub is expected to be located near the Eurovision Village. Melisa Kaymaz, who is responsible for the project, shared her expectations regarding the EuroClub program. She said her main goal is to host as many performances by different artists as possible, including a performance by last year’s winner, Nemo, with their song “The Code“.
Up to 3,000 people will be able to occupy the EuroClub each day.
Security and Accommodation
Letizia Elia, the director of Basel’s tourism office, assured that the city is seriously preparing to secure all events. According to unconfirmed reports from the internet, there will be collaboration in event security between Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft cantons, with police forces from both cantons specially deployed in the city during the Eurovision period.
Furthermore, as we reported previously, the Swiss Hotel Association announced an action plan to reduce accommodation costs in the city during Eurovision. The Swiss television program also addressed this, noting that 4-star rooms are expected to be released at prices ranging from 250 to 450 Swiss francs per night.
While this is still relatively expensive, it undoubtedly represents an extraordinary collaboration by Swiss hoteliers, who could have reaped enormous profits but aim to keep the Eurovision event accessible to a wide audience.
