Surprise: A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow where, according to rumors, the Moldovan national broadcaster is expected to announce the cancellation of the Eurovision selection and an internal choice of an artist, despite auditions having already been held and a list of songs published.
According to internet rumors, tomorrow at 11:00 (CET), the Moldovan national broadcaster, TRM, will hold a press conference where they will announce the cancellation of the Eurovision selection and the internal selection of Bacho and Carnival Brain with their song “Semafoare” to represent the country at Eurovision 2025. As a reminder, the broadcaster held an audition day for the selection where 26 songs competed, and a date for the final was already set for February 22, 2025.
The announcement about Bacho and Carnival Brain, if true, likely comes as a result of the poor quality of this year’s Eurovision selection. The songs in the Eurovision selection are not of satisfactory quality, and contestants who regularly finish in last place in auditions have managed to secure spots in the grand selection this year (Sasha Bognibov, for example).
The rules of the Moldovan Eurovision selection indeed allow the national broadcaster to stop the selection process at any time and internally choose the contestant they want to represent them at Eurovision 2025. It is also stated that contestants have no right to claim anything against the national broadcaster, which will prevent declarations like those of Sasha himself last year after he came last in the auditions.
List of songs and artists selected to compete in “Etapa națională 2025”:

Moldova in Eurovision 2024
Natalia Barbu represented Moldova in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2024 with the song “In the Middle”, after winning first place in the local national final. The song reached 13th place in the first semi-final, with only 20 points, and did not qualify for the grand final. This is Moldova’s lowest result in Eurovision since 2016, when Moldova reached 17th place in the semi-final.
