Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in UMK 2025. Who should represent Finland at Eurovision according to the editorial team?
The Finnish Eurovision national selection, “UMK 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 20:00 featuring 6 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Finland at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Finnish national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Finland?
Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin Hautaan”
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Erika Vikman – “Ich Komme”
The Finnish selection this year didn’t disappoint, and it’s one of the strongest selections of the season! My winner in this selection is Erika Vikman with her song “Ich Komme“. The song is completely different from the previous song she sent to the Eurovision selection, “Cicciolina”, and it came as a surprise at first. I didn’t know how to digest the song and thought it was lost for Erika and that she wouldn’t win this time either. However, as time passed, I got used to the song, understood the meaning behind it, and switched to supporting Erika. I think the style is different in a good way, the song is cheeky and not pandering, and it’s Erika‘s time to represent Finland at Eurovision!
Guy Solo: First Place – Neea River – “Nightmares”
A very strong selection for Finland this year! Five out of six of the songs can absolutely represent Finland with honor in my opinion. If I have to choose just one winner, it would be Neea River with the song “Nightmares”. Neea brings a pop song with electrodance touches, which sounds innovative and refreshing and blends wonderfully with the singer’s powerful voice. The song has already garnered over a million plays on various platforms and reached international playlists. The singer has collaborated in writing songs for famous artists in Finland and abroad, including the singer who came second in the Finnish Eurovision selection in 2023, Portion Boys, and Poland’s representative for Eurovision 2023, Blanka. Neea must be chosen as Finland’s representative for Eurovision 2025!
Shahar Asido: First Place – Goldielocks – “Made Of”
The song I connected with the most is “Made Of” by Goldielocks. It’s catchy, and the lyrics are full of content and substance. I also want to address Erika Vikman and the hype surrounding her. Apart from a flashy and provocative video, the song doesn’t bring anything special or innovative, so I don’t really understand what people are talking about and why they’re so excited.
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Goldielocks – “Made Of”
My winner in the Finnish national selection is the perfect Goldielocks, with the song “Made Of” which is crowned as my main song of the season and has the strongest, most meaningful, and touching lyrics. It took me a long time to love and connect with the song; it’s a regular pop song but with special and moving elements, precise lyrics, and an amazing music video. I can’t describe how much I love the song and how important it is to me and how it accompanied me throughout the season. On the other hand, I would also be very happy with a win for Erika Vikman, the icon of 2020 and one of the most explosive and talented singers in Finland, who returns to us after 5 years with a song that is in a different style from her previous hit, but much much more fun and catchy! The meaning of the song may be controversial, but Erika presents the song in the most classic, iconic, and intriguing way possible
Roy Moreno: First Place – Erika Vikman -“Ich Komme”
Another year where my favorite Eurovision national selection continues to maintain a high and quality level of songs! This is how a national selection should look in my opinion – a limited number of songs that allows you to connect with and get to know all of them, with an emphasis on quality rather than quantity, where even the songs I rank low are good songs! My winner in this selection is none other than Erika Vikman, who is known to all of us from the Finnish national selection in 2020, where she finished second. In a way, I’m so glad she didn’t win it then, because in the last five years she has completely improved as an artist and released excellent songs that I love to hear, and her current song in the selection would be, in my opinion, an excellent choice for Basel – because a performance like Erika‘s cannot be ignored!
Ilan Tzoler: First Place – Erika Vikman – “Ich Komme”
Aviad Berger: First Place – Neea River – “Nightmares”
Sorry Euromix readers, Erika doesn’t deserve to win this year. I liked her in 2020 too, but her song is simply not good. Instead, I chose Neea, the song I think is the best this year in the Finnish selection, and by far! Powerful voice, good song, and strong message, I definitely hope to see Neea in Basel.
Tal Dahan: First Place – Neea River – “Nightmares”
Maayan Eli: First Place – Erika Vikman – “Ich Komme”
