The provocative single by Estonia’s Eurovision 2025 representative Tommy Cash and 2024 Dutch contestant Joost Klein, sparked controversy with the EBU. The Estonian broadcaster clarified the situation, and the matter is now considered closed.

Tommy Cash, Estonia’s Eurovision 2025 representative, and Joost Klein, the Dutch contestant disqualified from Eurovision 2024, released a provocative joint single in February titled “United By Music.” The song’s lyrics, including phrases like “Fuck the EBU” (referring to the European Broadcasting Union), left little to the imagination and called for rebellion against the European broadcasting Union and contemporary social and political norms.

Estonian Broadcaster and EBU Address the Fallout

Following public uproar, Estonian national broadcaster ERR was required to respond to the European Broadcasting Union. In an interview with Sky Radio, Karmel Killandi, Head of Entertainment at ERR, explained that the EBU immediately contacted the broadcaster for clarification.

ERR informed the EBU that the two artists maintain a friendly relationship and that the controversial song is a personal expression by Joost Klein, without intent to insult the contest. Killandi added that Joost is known for his rebellious character, which is reflected in his work. Despite the incident, ERR maintains a positive relationship with the EBU.

“At the request of the EBU, a meeting was held between Tommy Cash and the ERR Board to discuss the matter. All parties involved agreed that there was no malicious intent, and the issue is now considered resolved,” Killandi stated.
