A surprise in the preparations for Eurovision in Basel: Lithuania’s representatives for Eurovision 2020 and 2021, the band The Roop, are expected to take part in one of the interval acts at Eurovision 2025! And with which song?

Today (Tuesday), the Swiss national broadcaster, SRG SSR, released a video featuring members of The Roop on its official Instagram page. In the video, the band members announce: “Hey, we are The Roop from Lithuania. We are so excited to finally bring ‘On Fire’ to the big stage at Eurovision 2025. After all these years, it’s finally happening. See you in May.”

The song “On Fire” by The Roop won the Lithuanian national selection in 2020 but ultimately did not get to participate in Eurovision due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The following year, the band once again competed in the Lithuanian national selection, won, and this time their dream came true as they performed on the big stage in Rotterdam with the song “Discoteque,” finishing in eighth place. This year, after five years, “On Fire” will finally be performed on the Eurovision stage as an interval act. It is not yet known whether The Roop will perform in the first semi-final, the second semi-final, or the grand final.

The Roop are not the first to be revealed, nor are they the only Eurovision 2021 alumni set to participate this year. About a week ago, it was announced at a Swiss national broadcaster press conference that Efendi, who represented Azerbaijan in Eurovision 2021, will return to the Eurovision stage this year as part of the guest performances as well. One of the Semi-Finals will feature a special collaborative performance from several iconic Swiss Eurovision representatives. According to the Swiss national broadcaster’s official press conference, Paola (Switzerland 1969 and 1980), Peter, Sue & Marc (1971, 1976, 1979, 1981), Luca Hänni (2019), and Gjon’s Tears (2020 and 2021) will all take the stage together for a moving medley celebrating Switzerland’s longstanding contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Roop – Who Are You?

The Roop is a band consisting of three members: lead singer and keyboardist Vaidotas Valiukevičius, drummer Robertas Baranauskas, and guitarist Mantas Banišauskas.

The band was formed in Vilnius in November 2014. The members first competed in Lithuania’s national selection in 2018 with the song “Yes, I Do,” finishing in third place. To date, the band has released two albums and eight singles.

In 2020, the band won the Lithuanian national selection and was set to compete in Eurovision 2020 with “On Fire,” but the contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following year, the band returned to the Lithuanian selection with the song “Discoteque,” securing a spot in the local final. They won the national contest for the second consecutive year and represented Lithuania in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, finishing in eighth place. In 2024, the band returned to the Lithuanian selection with the song “Simple Joy,” finishing in third place.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Switzerland’s 65th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland joined the competition in 1956, being one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Its most recent victory was at the last Eurovision in 2025, with Nemo’s song “The Code.” This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi,” performed by international singer Céline Dion.
