Georgia in Eurovision 2025: Singer Mariam Shengelia took the stage for her first rehearsal with the song “Freedom”. Stay updated with all the reports from Basel, Switzerland

Georgia was the second country to hold a rehearsal for Eurovision 2025 today with a – performance. Georgian singer Mariam Shengelia is the second contestant to rehearse today on the Eurovision 2025 stage in Basel, Switzerland, with the song “Freedom”. Mariam will perform as song number 10 in the second semi-final, which will take place on May 15 in Basel. This year’s competition features 37 countries.

Next in line to rehearse is Georgia’s Mariam Shengelia, who’s bringing her grand orchestral ballad Freedom to life. The song blends both Georgian and English lyrics, and you can definitely pick up on some 1960s vibes in the arrangement. We’re eager to see how it translates on the Eurovision stage.

Further details about Georgia’s performance

A striking stage prop is featured again – a large geometric rock positioned center stage. Mariam performs atop it, dressed in a dazzling silver gown that appears to be crafted from satin with organza layers, giving it volume and making her look as though she’s part of the rock itself. Surrounding her are four male dancers in traditional black chokha coats, tight-fitting headpieces, and black boots. During the second verse, they perform an intricate flag choreography using blue and white flags.

The stage visuals are minimalistic yet stunning – with a moon rising behind Mariam between two stage mountains, gradually transforming into a red sun framed by storm clouds and neon rings. As the performance progresses, the graphics speed up and become more energetic. Many acts this year rely heavily on lighting and visuals to boost their performance, and this one is a standout example.

And yes – there’s a costume reveal! Midway through, Mariam steps down from her rock and effortlessly steps out of her gown (which remains perfectly in place, hinting at its significant weight), unveiling a shimmering red jumpsuit for the final chorus. She finishes the song on the frame stage, set against a mountain backdrop. The strings and percussion in this track are massive – you can feel the sound surging through the entire arena.

Pyro alert: thick fog blankets the rock at the start, then slowly clears to give the illusion that Mariam and her dancers are emerging from it. Today’s rehearsal is all about high drama.
