The Significance of Eurovision Betting Odds

The betting odds for Eurovision 2025 are based on numerous individuals wagering money on countries they believe might win the upcoming contest. With all songs now revealed, the betting table has transformed into an expectation table, much of which will materialize while some predictions may prove inaccurate. At this stage, we can clearly identify the favorites to win the competition and which countries have little chance of victory. While it’s possible to roughly gauge where each country might rank in Eurovision, we should anticipate both positive and negative surprises.

How Accurate Are the Betting Tables?

Looking back at 2018: In the first semi-final, the countries expected to qualify for the final according to the betting tables were Israel, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Austria, Lithuania, Armenia, and Belgium. In reality, Greece, Armenia, and Belgium did not make it to the final. Surprisingly, Albania-ranked only 17th in the betting tables-managed to qualify. In the second semi-final, the favorites were Norway, Sweden, Moldova, Ukraine, Australia, Poland, Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, and Latvia. In practice, Poland and Latvia did not advance, while Serbia, which was ranked just 16th, reached the final.

And what about 2022? Ukraine was ranked first, Italy second, and Sweden third. In reality, Ukraine did win the contest, Italy finished sixth, and Sweden came in fourth. The United Kingdom and Spain, which were ranked fourth and fifth in the betting, ended up finishing second and third, respectively.

The conclusion is clear: betting tables are accurate about 70%-80% of the time, so surprises are likely tonight during the reveal of the finalists.

Switzerland joined the competition in 1956, being one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Its most recent victory was at the last Eurovision in 2025, with Nemo’s song “The Code.” This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi,” performed by international singer Céline Dion.
