Michelle Hunziker, Hazel Brugger, and Sandra Studer will host Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland-a trio of experienced presenters selected by Swiss national broadcaster SRG SSR to lead Europe’s major music event.
The country representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest are undoubtedly the stars of the competition, drawing Eurovision fans from all over Europe in their honor. However, no less important for the success of the live shows is the role of the hosts. They are responsible for explaining the competition rules, introducing the participating countries to the audience, and, at the crucial moment-revealing the results.
This year, the production selected three hosts for this important role: Michelle Hunziker and Hazel Brugger will host the semi-finals on May 13 and 15, and in the grand final on May 17, Sandra Studer will join them. This is a strong female force, chosen by the Swiss national broadcaster, SRG SSR, to present the contest’s chosen motto, “Welcome Home”, and already tonight, viewers can expect another surprising addition to the hosting team.
Semi-Final Hosts – Who Are You?
Michelle Hunziker
The 47-year-old Hunziker is a model, actress, and television presenter. She is fluent in German and Italian. She began her television career on the Italian channel RAI UNO, and currently appears frequently on Swiss and Italian television. She grew up in Ostermundigen, near Bern, and is one of Switzerland’s most internationally recognized personalities. In 2018, she hosted the San Remo Festival.
Hazel Brugger
Brugger, 31, the youngest of the hosts, is a Swiss comedian. Born in the USA, she grew up near Zurich and currently resides in the Darmstadt district of Germany. Brugger has proven to captivate audiences with both her dry humor and her perceptive skills. She undoubtedly intends to apply them in Basel. Brugger is a winner of the German Comedy Award, Salzburg Bull, and has also won the Swiss Comedy Award, while the jury of the Kleinkunstpreis (a German stand-up competition) dubbed her the ‘Queen of Wit’. As a voice of the younger generation, Hazel offers amusing, witty, and innovative perspectives on the event.
Who is the third host joining the Grand Final?
Sandra Studer
Sandra Studer, 55 years old, represented Switzerland at Eurovision 1991 with the song “Canzone per te” (in English: “A Song for You”), where she finished in 5th place. Since then, she has shaped Swiss culture as a host, actress, and singer. Throughout her Eurovision journey, she has hosted national selections, delivered the Swiss jury points, and served as a commentator for the contest. Therefore, her role as a Eurovision host feels like a natural progression in her career
A surprising addition to tonight’s first semi-final – Petra Mede
At the end of the performances by the 15 competing songs in the first semi-final, the hosts take the stage and present a recap of all the songs. Afterwards, Michelle and Hazel perform an original song themselves about Swiss inventions (“Made In Switzerland”). In a complete surprise, last year’s Eurovision host, Petra Mede, joins them as the character of William Tell, a Swiss figure who transferred money from the rich to the poor like Robin Hood, and the song ends in a very colorful fashion.
Mede, 53, is a host, actress, and formerly a highly successful dancer in Sweden. In 2013, Mede hosted Eurovision alone at the same venue in Malmö, and in 2016 she hosted the contest again together with Måns Zelmerlöw, who had won the previous year. In 2024, she hosted Eurovision in Malmö alongside Malin Akerman. Mede is considered one of the most beloved and iconic hosts in Eurovision history
Eurovision 2025: This will be Switzerland’s 65th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland joined the competition in 1956, being one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Its most recent victory was at the last Eurovision in 2025, with Nemo’s song “The Code.” This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi,” performed by international singer Céline Dion.
