Eliza Borg, Malta’s Junior Eurovision 2025 representative in Tbilisi, Georgia, delivers a moving performance of Yuval Raphael’s “New Day Will Rise”, which earned second place at Eurovision 2025 in Basel.
This week, young Maltese singer Eliza Borg won the television competition “The Voice Malta”, earning the right to represent Malta in Junior Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Tbilisi, Georgia. Following her victory, her emotional performance of “New Day Will Rise” was unveiled to the public.
Last Saturday, Borg was crowned winner of “The Voice Malta” and selected to represent her country at Junior Eurovision, scheduled for December 13th in Tbilisi, Georgia. In the show’s grand finale, Eliza performed the song she will compete with at Junior Eurovision, although its title has not yet been officially revealed. After her win, fans discovered that Borg had performed, just two months earlier, the song originally performed by Yuval Raphael, who proudly represented Israel at Eurovision 2025 and achieved an impressive second place with 357 points!
Listen to her moving performance below!
This week’s victory secured Borg’s position as Malta’s next Junior Eurovision contestant, with a powerful and emotional ballad. Malta becomes the sixth country to confirm both its artist and song for the upcoming Georgian event, following Albania, France, The Netherlands, Spain, and Ukraine. Twelve more countries are expected to announce their representatives soon: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, and host Georgia. Estonia and Germany, both of which participated last year, will not take part in this edition.
Malta at Junior Eurovision: Triumphs aside Setbacks
Malta has been a participant since the contest’s inception in 2003. It is considered one of Junior Eurovision’s most successful countries, boasting two victories:
-
In 2013, Gaia Cauchi won with the song “The Start”.
-
In 2015, Destiny Chukunyere, well-known to fans from Eurovision 2021, triumphed with “Not My Soul”.
Despite these achievements, Malta has also faced disappointing results, finishing last in 2005, 2019, and 2022. The country made a strong comeback in the most recent contest, placing fifth with “Stilla Ċkejkna” (in English: “Little Star”), performed by young singer Ramires Sciberras. Will Eliza Borg continue Malta’s upward trend? Only time will tell.
Junior Eurovision is a song contest for children aged 9 to 14, modeled after the main Eurovision competition. The first edition took place in Denmark in 2003, and it has been held annually ever since. Over the years, 41 different countries have participated — including some not part of the main Eurovision framework, such as Wales, a constituent nation of the United Kingdom, and Kazakhstan, located outside the European Broadcasting Area. Israel has participated in Junior Eurovision only three times — 2012, 2016, and 2018. Its best result came in 2012, finishing eighth out of twelve entries with the group Kids.il and the song “Let the Music Win”. Today, Israel no longer competes in the contest, as the national broadcaster prefers to invest resources in producing original Israeli content rather than funding participation in international competitions.
Malta in Eurovision 2025
“Serving” is the title of the song performed by Miriana Conte, who represented Malta at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Malta qualified for the final by placing ninth in the semi-final with 53 points, and finished 17th in the grand final with 91 points – 83 from the juries and only 8 from the televote.
Eurovision 2026: This will be Malta’s 38th participation in Eurovision. Malta joined the competition in 1971 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2002 and Eurovision 2005 after finishing second twice.
