Were plans for an Arab Eurovision quietly taking shape? According to Voxvision, it seems that such a competition is closer than ever to happening!
Voxovation presented a new and ambitious proposal aimed at significantly expanding the world of Eurovision: the creation of Eurovision Arab World, a television song contest dedicated exclusively to the countries of the Arab world. The competition is planned based on the format of the European Eurovision, but with adjustments to the music, traditions, and cultural characteristics of the Arab world.
Voxovation, which has held the international rights to the Eurovision brand since 2018, announced that this contest is planned to include 22 Arab countries, ranging from North African nations to those in the Persian Gulf. The goal is to promote a competition that will serve as a “celebration of unity,” highlighting shared cultural roots while also showcasing the musical diversity of the Arab world. The contest is expected to feature pop, rap, traditional Arabic songs, and contemporary styles, coming together to create a vibrant music arena with its own unique identity.
Voxovation aims to establish the first-ever Arab Eurovision contest in history. This initiative would fulfill one of the company’s aspirations: to make Eurovision a wider international brand, expanding to more countries and continents – similar to the American Song Contest held in 2022, which was won by AleXa, who expected to compete in Melodifestivalen for a chance to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria.
For the Eurovision fan community, this contest could introduce an entirely new area of interest – new countries, new artists, and interesting songs combining various styles and cultures. However, despite all the hope and excitement, the implementation of such a competition is highly complex: a contest featuring 22 countries requires a high level of production and significant financial costs, and there are notable political differences and tensions between these countries that could challenge the competition’s launch.
Furthermore, it is important to note that similar initiatives like AsiaVision, Eurovision Canada, and Eurovision Latin America ultimately failed to materialize.
Will the Arab Eurovision competition happen soon? Only time will tell…
Eurovision 2026: The 70th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Vienna, Austria, following the country’s third historic win with the song “Wasted Love” performed by JJ. This will be the third time the contest is hosted in Austria, after 1967 and 2015.
