New reports on Denmark’s “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026” – pointing to a series of well-known and beloved former representatives who may once again compete for the ticket to Eurovision 2026. Who are they?
Eurovision’s national finals season is heating up as countries begin to reveal contestant shortlists, featuring several familiar names in the Eurovision community hoping to return to the stage in Vienna, Austria. While the official lineup for “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” is set to be unveiled only on January 22nd, rumors are abuzz about a number of former representatives possibly returning to compete for the Eurovision 2026 ticket.
Sissal Hansen, Denmark’s representative at Eurovision 2025 with the song “Hallucination”, hinted at a possible comeback during an interview on the morning show “Go’ morgen Danmark” (in English: “Good Morning Denmark”):
“2026 might be bigger than 2025”.
But Sissal is far from alone. According to the Danish Eurovision page Good Evening Europe, possible candidates include Anja Nissen, Denmark’s 2017 Eurovision representative with the song “Where I Am”, Brinck, Denmark’s 2009 representative with the song “Believe Again”, and Søren Bregendahl, a member of the duo Lighthouse X, Denmark’s 2016 representatives with the song “Soldiers of Love”.
The list doesn’t end there. The report adds that Benjamin Rosenbohm, part of the duo Ben & Tan who were selected for the canceled Eurovision 2020 with the song “Yes”, as well as Saba, Denmark’s 2024 representative with the song “Sand”, will also return to “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” – but this time as songwriters.
Additional names that might spark Eurovision fans’ interest include Søren Torpegaard Lund, who took part in“Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023”, Sander Sanchez, runner-up in “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2020”, Sigmund Trondheim, who participated in 2019, Simone, a three-time contender (2010, 2013, 2016), Anna David, who competed in 2009 and wrote “Hvileløse hjerter” for “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023”, and Kat Stephie, who appeared in “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2009” as part of the duo Sukkerchok.
“Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” Format:

At the beginning of November, during the annual general meeting of the Danish fan club melodigrandprixfans.dk, Erik Struve Hansen, the head of “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix”, shared several new details about the upcoming competition. According to Hansen, this year’s national selection will be a modern, renewed, and innovative musical show that introduces a new stage, updated logo, and fresh visual identity. DR is placing special emphasis on attracting a younger audience — aiming to position the show as a cutting-edge production that can bring Denmark stronger results at Eurovision, following five years without reaching top ranks.
Eight songs will compete in “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026”. According to the national broadcaster, the lineup includes both artists who have previously participated in the competition and established names making their debut in the national final. DR added that all eight songs were developed with the Eurovision stage in mind from the outset. This strategy continues the momentum of Sissal, Denmark’s representative in 2025, who successfully led the country to the Eurovision Grand Final — its first since 2019.
In addition, the structure of the competition will not change. The final results will be determined by a combination of 50% jury vote and 50% public vote. The jury will be composed of professionals with expertise in music and live performance, with connections to the “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” and Eurovision. Half of the jury members will be from Denmark, and the other half will be international representatives.
Denmark at Eurovision 2025
“Hallucination” is the song performed by singer Sissal, who represented Denmark in the grand final of Eurovision 2025. Denmark qualified for the grand final after placing eighth in the second semi-final with 61 points, marking the country’s first qualification for the final after four consecutive years of remaining in the semi-finals. In the grand final, Denmark received 45 points from the jury and just 2 points from the public, finishing in 23rd place overall.
Eurovision 2026: This will be Denmark’s 54th participation in Eurovision. Denmark joined the competition in 1957 and has won it three times over the years. Denmark’s last victory was in Eurovision 2013 with the song “Only Teardrops” performed by singer Emmelie de Forest.
