The North Macedonian national broadcaster (MRT) has published its broadcasting plans for 2025, which include Eurovision 2025 and Junior Eurovision 2025. Does this predict a return to Eurovision? It’s not certain.

North Macedonia’s national broadcaster, MRT, has unveiled its programming schedule for 2025, which includes plans to air both Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, and Junior Eurovision 2025. Although the country withdrew from the main Eurovision contest after Eurovision 2022, it continued to broadcast the competition and even continues to participate specifically in Junior Eurovision.

While broadcasting plans do not guarantee participation, this development suggests that North Macedonia has not abandoned the idea of returning to Eurovision in the future.

Current Status of Participation

As of now, North Macedonia has neither confirmed nor denied its participation in Eurovision 2025. The registration deadline passed on September 15, and at this stage, it is unknown whether the Balkan country has registered for the next Eurovision. An official list of competing countries is expected to be revealed during November – then we will officially discover whether North Macedonia will compete in the contest.

The country’s last appearance in the contest was in 2022 when Andrea represented them and finished 11th in the semi-final. North Macedonia withdrew from Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, UK, citing financial reasons. For Eurovision 2024, MRT allocated 1.5 million Macedonian denars (approximately €24,000) for participation in Junior Eurovision 2023 and Eurovision 2024.

There were reports that singer Andrijana Janevska was chosen to represent North Macedonia in 2024, but she declined the offer. The precise reasons for the country’s non-participation in Eurovision 2024 remain unclear, whether stemming from the singer’s refusal or other factors.

Eurovision 2022: This was North Macedonia’s 21st participation in Eurovision. North Macedonia joined the competition in 1998 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2019 when singer Tamara Todevska finished in seventh place with the song “Proud”.
