Spain in Eurovision 2025: surprising collaboration of Aiko, Czechia’s Eurovision 2024 representative, and Megara band member who represented San Marino in the last Eurovision, jointly attempting to represent Spain in the next Eurovision.

Last Thursday, the Spanish national broadcaster RTVE officially closed the submission window for the Spanish Eurovision national finals, Benidorm Fest 2025. The broadcaster reports a new record, with approximately 1,000 songs received in the system. Among these submissions are many from artists unknown in the Eurovision world, but one entry comes from two representatives of different countries from Eurovision 2024!

Unexpected Eurovision Collaboration

Aiko, Czechia’s representative in Eurovision 2024, and Kat, the drummer of the Spanish band Megara that represented San Marino, have confirmed that they submitted a song for Benidorm Fest 2025. The song is reportedly titled “Mi Amor”. It’s likely to express the relationship between the two, who met during Eurovision 2024, fell in love, and subsequently began dating. It’s still unknown whether their song has been accepted for the festival.

Selection Process and Timeline

Now that the submission window has closed, the RTVE selection committee for the festival will review and listen to all received songs, including Aiko and Kat’s entry. They will choose the 16 best and most suitable songs to participate in next year’s festival. Some of these will advance to the grand final of the competition, expected to take place on February 1st, where the song representing the country in Switzerland will be chosen through a combined vote: 50% from judges, 25% from a demoscopic jury, and 25% from the public vote.

Spanish Eurovision National Finals Dates:

  • Semi-final 1 – January 28, 2025
  • Semi-final 2 – January 30, 2025
  • Grand Final – February 1, 2025

Eurovision 2025: This will be Spain’s 65th participation in Eurovision. Spain joined the competition in 1961 and won it twice consecutively in 1968 and 1969. Spain has hosted the contest on its territory only once in 1969 and since then holds the longest waiting time since its last victory – 55 years.
