A new record has been set: about 1,000 songs have been submitted to RTVE for the Spanish Eurovision national finals, Benidorm Fest 2025! The Eurovision representative will be chosen on February 1.
Last Thursday, Spanish national broadcaster RTVE officially closed the submission window for the Spanish Eurovision national selection, Benidorm Fest 2025. The broadcaster now reports a new record, with approximately 1,000 songs received. Out of these 1,000 submissions, about 300 were received in just the last 24 hours! This marks an increase of nearly 200 songs compared to last year’s competition, which saw 825 entries.
Resurgence of Interest in Benidorm Fest
This year’s increase in song submissions comes after a decline in entries last year, following Blanca Paloma‘s disappointing performance at Eurovision 2023. Although Nebulossa didn’t achieve success at Eurovision itself, their popularity in Spain seems to have reignited interest in the competition among Spaniards, transforming the festival into one of the country’s largest and most significant platforms for promoting the Spanish music industry.
Benidorm Fest: Selection Process and Key Dates
Now that the submission window has closed, RTVE’s selection committee for the festival will listen to all received entries. They will choose the 16 best and most suitable songs to participate in next year’s festival. Some of these will advance to the grand final of the competition, scheduled for February 1, where the song representing Spain in Switzerland will be chosen through a combined voting system: 50% from judges, 25% from a demoscopic jury, and 25% from the public.
Key dates for Benidorm Fest 2025:
- First Semi-Final – January 28, 2025
- Second Semi-Final – January 30, 2025
- Grand Final – February 1, 2025
The winner of Benidorm Fest 2025 will represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, set to take place in Switzerland following Nemo’s victory with “The Code” in Malmö, Sweden.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Spain’s 65th participation in Eurovision. Spain joined the competition in 1961 and won it twice consecutively in 1968 and 1969. Spain has hosted the contest on its territory only once in 1969 and since then holds the longest waiting time since its last victory – 55 years.
