Alizade confirms she wants to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2027 and names her favorite Eurovision songs.
Azerbaijani pop and rap star Alizade has emerged as one of the leading fan-favorite names to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2027. Now, for the first time, the singer has publicly confirmed that she would like to compete for her country – and even for Turkey, should it ever return to the Eurovision Song Contest.
“Of Course!” – Alizade Opens Up About Eurovision
In an interview with Aria Nejati on his YouTube channel, the singer was asked whether she would like to represent her country at Eurovision. She responded enthusiastically:
“Of course! I want to represent Azerbaijan, or even Turkey if it ever returns to the contest and someone wants to send me there.”
Alizade also revealed her favorite Eurovision songs of all time. She highlighted Azerbaijan’s winning entry, Ell & Nikki‘s “Running Scared,” as well as Hadise‘s “Dum Tek Tek,” describing the latter as legendary.
The interviewer commented that he could easily imagine her performing on the Eurovision stage, with Alizade agreeing. The conversation ended on a light-hearted note, with both joking about the support she could receive from audiences in both Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Eurovision Participation in Danger?
Political instability in Eastern Europe could decrease the chances for an Azerbaijani Eurovision 2027 participation. The government of Azerbaijan is seriously considering a complete withdrawal from the Council of Europe, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced this week. In his opening address at the 4th World Media Forum held in Shusha, the President clarified that Baku is not merely considering a temporary freeze or suspension of activities, but is openly exploring a total exit from the body. Such a step carries significant consequences, including impacts on future Eurovision participation.
The dramatic implications of this decision lie within the rules of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Full membership or observer status in the Council of Europe serves as a core threshold criterion for holding membership in the broadcasting union. Consequently, if Azerbaijan materializes its threats and withdraws from the Council, its national broadcaster, İTV, would face a tangible risk of having its EBU membership revoked, thereby stripping the nation of its right to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Alizade – Who Are You?
Alizade is an Azerbaijani-Russian singer, songwriter, and rapper. She began her music career in Russia in 2019 before leaving the country in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and relocating to Turkey.
She quickly became one of Turkey’s most successful artists in 2022, with several of her songs reaching the top of the local charts. At the same time, she also gained significant recognition in her native Azerbaijan, which she had left at a young age.
Her name has been linked with Eurovision speculation for several years, but this marks the first time she has directly addressed the rumors and openly expressed her interest in representing Azerbaijan at the contest.
