How Will Portugal Select Its Eurovision 2027 Entry?

The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has published the rules for the traditional “Festival da Canção”, confirming that submissions from Portuguese songwriters and performers will open on November 1st and close on November 30th, 2026.

A professional jury will select 16 songs from the submissions. Each song may be up to three minutes long, and all 16 entries will compete in the grand final, scheduled to be broadcast on March 6th, 2027.

The winning artist and song, which will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2027, will be determined by a combination of votes from a local jury and the public. The jury will account for 50% of the final result, with the remaining 50% decided by the public vote.

In the event of a tie for first place, the public vote will determine which entry earns the right to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2027.

Eurovision 2027: This will be Portugal’s 58th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Portugal joined the competition in 1964 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2017 when singer Salvador Sobral won first place with the song “Amar pelos dois”.
