SWR and Head of Delegation Tina Sikorski confirm Germany will participate in Eurovision 2027 using national selection Das deutsche Finale.

Even before the Eurovision 2026 season comes to an end, Germany’s participation in Eurovision 2027 has already been officially greenlit. During the “Eurovision in Concert” Eurovision party in the Netherlands, the official confirmation was given, which also guarantees another year for the country’s national selection format. Germany is the second country to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027, following Bulgaria, which became the first country to do so approximately three months ago.

As the country is part of the “Big 4” (the four countries contributing the largest sums to the European Broadcasting Union, alongside Italy, France, and UK), Germany will automatically advance to the Grand Final and will not have to compete in the semi-final stages.

Germany’s Selection Process for 2027

During the “Eurovision in Concert” event held in the Netherlands last week, Germany’s Head of Delegation Tina Sikorski confirmed that Germany will participate in Eurovision 2027. She also revealed that the German national broadcaster SWR will continue with the same format, selecting its entry for next year’s contest through the German national selection “Das deutsche Finale”.

At the event, she explained that she was very satisfied with the success of the German national selection and the management of the selection process. In addition, she confirmed that it is “very, very likely” that the format of the German national selection used this year will remain in place for a very long term of several years. However, she did not personally rule out the option of selecting the German entry in the future through an internal selection, adding that this would happen when they find the most suitable candidate to represent the country.

With this, SWR has officially confirmed Germany’s participation in Eurovision 2027 and the continuation of the national selection next year.

Additionally, Germany finished in second place four times – in 1980, 1981, 1985, and 1987 – but conversely, it has finished in last place nine times, mostly in the early 2000s.
