CyBC confirms Cyprus for Eurovision 2027 as discussions begin on the selection format and a new Head of Delegation.
The Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC has officially confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which will take place in Bulgaria next May. Cyprus becomes the seventh country to confirm participation in Eurovision 2027, following Germany, North Macedonia, San Marino, Greece, Switzerland and the host country – Bulgaria.
A Cypriot National Final for Eurovision 2027?
Cyprus has officially confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2027, according to information shared with our colleagues at the Greek Eurovision website Eurovisionfun. However, the country’s selection process for Eurovision 2027 remains unclear. While rumours have circulated online regarding a potential national final, our sources emphasize that Cyprus is currently focused on selecting its representative and song for Junior Eurovision 2026. Discussions within CyBC regarding the Eurovision 2027 selection process are expected to begin in the coming days.
The Greek website describes a growing Cypriot hunger for victory following Bulgaria’s first-ever Eurovision win this year. It speculates that Cyprus could receive particular attention during the upcoming season and may achieve a stronger result than the one it secured this year. With Bulgaria hosting the contest following its breakthrough victory, many participating countries are already beginning preparations for Eurovision 2027, despite the selection season still being in its early stages.
CyBC is also expected to replace Evie Papamichael, who has served as Cyprus’ Head of Delegation for 35 years and is now retiring from the position. She is expected to be succeeded by Alexia Moutafidou, who has served as Papamichael’s right-hand woman during Cyprus’ recent Eurovision participations and is set to take over the role for the first time.
