SRG SSR confirms Eurovision 2027 participation and appoints Lasse Nymann as Switzerland’s new musical director.

The Swiss national broadcaster SRG SSR has confirmed Switzerland’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 and revealed new details about the team that will accompany the country this year as it aims for a stronger result following its failure to qualify for the Grand Final in Vienna. Switzerland is the sixth country to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027, following Germany, North Macedonia, San Marino, Greece and the host country – Bulgaria.

Switzerland’s Eurovision Selection Process

Switzerland traditionally selects its Eurovision entry through an internal selection and has not held a national final for many years. That approach will continue in 2027. The Swiss internal selection will open submissions on August 20th and close them on September 7th.

Once all songs and artists have been submitted, a selection panel consisting of both expert jurors and Eurovision fans from around the world will evaluate the entries. Both groups will also include younger members in order to comply with the European Broadcasting Union’s new jury criteria. The process will additionally be supported by AI-based analysis of the competing songs and artists.

In addition, a new musical director has been appointed to the Swiss delegation. Norwegian songwriter Lasse Nymann, who co-wrote “The Code”, the winning Swiss entry at Eurovision 2024, will take on the role. According to SRG SSR, Nymann is “well known within the Swiss music scene and has visited Switzerland several times to participate in songwriting camps in the country.”

Yves Schifferle, Head of Delegation for Switzerland, said:

“Our goals have not changed. We want to find artists and songs that can succeed internationally while at the same time representing Switzerland authentically. We continue to develop our selection process with modern tools, our personal experience, and new ideas.”

Minimum Participation Age – 16 or 18?

Over the past year, reports have circulated suggesting that Eurovision could raise its minimum participation age from 16 to 18. However, according to the rules of the Swiss internal selection, the minimum age for a potential representative remains 16 rather than 18.

Could this indicate that plans to raise the minimum age have been abandoned? The answer will likely become clearer in the coming months.

Additional Rules for Song Submissions

SRG SSR has also published several additional requirements for artists wishing to submit entries:

  • The artist submitting a song must have lived in Switzerland for at least one year.
  • Songs may not be written by AI, although the use of AI as a supporting tool is permitted.
  • The selection process will conclude before the end of 2026.

As preparations for Eurovision 2027 continue, Switzerland appears committed to refining its selection system while maintaining its long-standing internal selection format. The inclusion of international fan juries, AI-assisted analysis, and the appointment of Lasse Nymann underline the country’s ambition to return to the Eurovision Grand Final and achieve stronger results on the international stage.

Switzerland at Eurovision 2026

Alice” is the song that was be performed by the singer Veronica Fusaro, which represented Switzerland in the second semi-final on May 14th, in Vienna, Austria. Switzerland has failed to qualify to the final, finishing 11th place overall, despite being 9th in both jury vote and televote.

Eurovision 2026: This will be Switzerland’s 66th participation in Eurovision. Switzerland joined the contest in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Switzerland’s most recent victory was at the last Eurovision, 2025, with Nemo and the song “The Code”. This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi”, performed by the international singer Céline Dion.
