SMRTV director Roberto Sergio confirms San Marino and Media Evolution are already preparing for Eurovision 2027 after semi-final disappointment.

The second rehearsal clip of San Marino’s Senhit alongside music icon Boy George performing “Superstar” on the Eurovision 2026 stage in Vienna, Austria, stands out without question and feels unlike any other rehearsal revealed so far. Boy George, who was recently reported to have briefly returned to his home in London, appeared on stage once again in a look that is already generating major attention among fans online.

Despite the disappointment, San Marino appears far from ready to give up. Earlier today, Roberto Sergio, Director General of San Marino’s national broadcaster SMRTV, revealed that preparations for Eurovision 2027 are already underway.

Cautious Optimism After the Result

Reflecting on the country’s failure to qualify for the Grand Final, Sergio stated:

“It’s unfortunate, given that the performance was excellent. In my personal opinion, none of the qualifiers were unexpected, as it was clear that ten countries excelled in terms of level”.

Despite the disappointing outcome, he emphasized that the overall experience remained positive:

“Our satisfaction is a given, as the experience was great. In competitions, the result is not always victorious. In this particular case, the conditions were not favorable, but our intention for one more attempt remains unchanged”.

Sergio stressed on behalf of SMRTV that the Sammarinese national broadcaster has no intention of withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition, SMRTV confirmed it will continue its collaboration with the company “Media Evolution”, which co-produced San Marino’s latest national selection in its new format.

According to Sergio, preparations for selecting the country’s representative for Eurovision 2027 are expected to begin immediately.

SMRTV Continues With “Media Evolution”

Later in his remarks, Sergio once again confirmed that SMRTV plans to continue participating in Eurovision and maintain its partnership with “Media Evolution”.

“Media Evolution will return to the selection process for the 2027 contest,” the director general confirmed. “Our goal is to create an outstanding performance, as I firmly believe that a country like San Marino, with a strong extroverted orientation, must continue on this path”.

Will San Marino finally break its Eurovision curse and finish on the left-hand side of the Grand Final scoreboard next year? Eurovision fans will have to wait until 2027 to find out.
