Noa Kirel, Nemo, and Annalisa won MTV EMA awards in 2024, alongside other big names in the music world! Slimane, France’s Eurovision 2024 representative facing legal charges, did not win an award.

Last night, the MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA) 2024 ceremony took place in Manchester, England, where several prominent Eurovision stars from recent years were nominated. Three artists associated with Eurovision won awards in their respective categories: Noa Kirel, Israel’s representative and third-place winner at Eurovision 2023, won in the “Best Israeli Act” category; Nemo, Switzerland’s representative and Eurovision 2024 winner, won in the “Best Swiss Act” category; and Annalisa, third-place winner at the San Remo Festival 2024 and winner of the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2024, won in the “Best Italian Act” category.

Eurovision Success at MTV EMAs

Noa Kirel, who represented Israel with the song “Unicorn” at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, won the award in the “Best Israeli Act” category, beating nominees such as Anna Zak, Shahar Saul, and Agam Buhbut. Kirel has been nominated in this category every year consecutively since 2016 (except for 2019 when there was no Israeli award) and has won every year since 2017 (except for 2019, as mentioned, and 2023, when she was nominated but the award in this category was canceled).

Nemo, the Eurovision 2024 winner with the song “The Code“, was nominated for the first time in their life in the “Best Swiss Act” category and won the award.

Italian and Portuguese Representation

In the “Best Italian Act” category, singer Annalisa, who came third in the San Remo Festival 2024 with the song “Sinceramente“, won the award. Annalisa also won this year’s OGAE Second Chance contest for Italy. She had been nominated for this award several times before and won it in 2018. Another Eurovision artist who competed against Annalisa in this category was Angelina Mango, who beat Annalisa in the San Remo Festival 2024 and represented Italy in Malmö with the song “La Noia“, finishing seventh. Mahmood, Italy’s representative at Eurovision 2019 with “Soldi” and in 2022 with Blanco with “Brividi“, was also nominated but did not win.

In the “Best Portuguese Act” category, Bárbara Tinoco, who came second in the Portuguese Eurovision national selection in 2020 with the song “Passe-Partout“, and Ivandro, who came fifth in the national selection in 2023 with the song “Povo“, were both nominated but did not win the award.

Slimane’s Unsuccessful Bid

A Eurovision singer who did not succeed at this year’s ceremony is Slimane, who finished fourth at Eurovision 2024 as France’s representative with the song “Mon Amour“. Slimane competed in the “Best French Act” category for the second consecutive year but lost the award to French singer Pierre Garnier. As a reminder, Slimane is currently facing criminal charges of sexual harassment.
