Lithuania’s national broadcaster LRT announces extension of submission window for Eurovizija.LT 2025 national final.

Lithuania confirmed its participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in August, and the national broadcaster LRT promptly opened the song submission window for their national selection “Eurovizija.LT”. Initially, the deadline for submissions was set for November 11, 2024. However, LRT recently announced an extension of the deadline to November 25, allowing artists additional time to submit their entries.

Extended Submission Period

The Lithuanian national broadcaster had already set a relatively late deadline for song submissions, hoping to provide artists with more time to compose and prepare their entries. To participate in the selection process, contestants must adhere to the competition rules, which stipulate that the performing artist must be a Lithuanian citizen. However, there are no nationality restrictions for songwriters.

Selection Process and Format

After the submission window closes, an LRT committee will select the songs they deem suitable for the Eurovision Song Contest. The chosen entries will compete in Eurovizija.LT, following the same format as last year. The competition will feature up to five semi-finals, with the number of participants depending on the quantity of songs selected by the committee.

Results in both the semi-finals and the final will be determined by a combination of jury voting (50%) and public voting (50%). Ultimately, the top three songs from the final will be performed again, with the winner being chosen entirely by public vote. The grand final is scheduled for February 15.

Financial Support for Contestants

LRT will continue to provide financial support to contestants to enhance their performances. Last year, each participant received a budget of 1,500 Euros for staging their entry. The previous winner of Eurovizija.LT was Silvester Belt, who represented Lithuania at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö with the song “Luktelk“.

Lithuania’s Eurovision Journey

Lithuania joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 but faced a challenging debut, finishing last with zero points. The country has yet to secure its first victory, unlike its Baltic neighbors Estonia and Latvia, who won in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Lithuania’s best result remains sixth place in Eurovision 2006, when LT United represented the country with “We Are The Winners“. In recent years, Lithuania has maintained a qualification streak, reaching four consecutive finals since Eurovision 2021.

“Luktelk” (“Wait”) is the song performed by singer Silvester Belt that represented Lithuania in Eurovision 2024, after winning the local national selection. The song advanced to the grand final and finished in 14th place with 90 points.

This marks the fourth consecutive time that Lithuania has qualified for the grand final of the competition.
