Georgia emerges victorious in Junior Eurovision 2024! Read on for the full results and all the event highlights.

The Junior Eurovision 2024 was held tonight in Madrid, Spain’s capital, featuring young artists aged 9 to 14 from 17 participating countries across Europe. Georgia was declared the winner of this year’s Junior Eurovision with the song “To My Mom” performed by Andria Putkaradze. This victory marks Georgia’s fourth win in the competition, solidifying its position as the most successful country in Junior Eurovision history. Previously tied with France at three wins each, Georgia now claims the title outright.

The competition’s results were once again determined by a combination of public votes (50%) and jury votes (50%). Portugal topped the public vote, while Georgia secured first place in the jury vote. This dramatic turn in the jury voting ensured Georgia’s win despite a modest public vote ranking. Portugal claimed second place overall, and Ukraine finished third.

Hosting the event were actor and model Marc Clotet, Spain’s 2014 Eurovision representative Ruth Lorenzo, and Spain’s 2019 Junior Eurovision contestant Melani García.

The show opened with performances by María Isabel, Spain’s Junior Eurovision 2004 winner, Zoé Clauzure, the French winner of Junior Eurovision 2023, and Sandra Valero, Spain’s 2023 runner-up. The trio performed the traditional “Common Song” under the competition’s 2024 slogan, “Let’s Bloom”. The flag parade, reminiscent of the adult Eurovision, was accompanied by a captivating interval act featuring Spanish artist Abraham Mateo with his song “Maníaca“, and a visual masterpiece, “Time To Bloom“, directed by Sergio Jaén, who also choreographed Ireland’s performance in Eurovision 2024.

This year introduced a significant change in the voting system, raising questions about its potential adoption in the main Eurovision contest in Basel 2025. During the announcement of jury points, the scores from all jury members for each point level (10, 8, 7, etc.) were announced simultaneously, culminating in the traditional presentation of the 12-point (“Douze Points”) awards. This efficient yet controversial change, revealed during last night’s jury rehearsals and widely shared on social media, sparked mixed reactions among fans.

Following the jury votes, public votes were announced in the familiar format, adding to the suspense. While the system demonstrated potential advantages, opinions on its effectiveness remain divided.

Traditionally, the winning country hosts the following year’s Junior Eurovision. However, unlike the main Eurovision Song Contest, hosting rights for Junior Eurovision are not automatically assigned to the winner. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will make an official announcement in due time. Nonetheless, Georgia is a strong contender to host the event in late 2025, likely in November or December.
