The Norwegian national broadcaster announced new details today about the 2025 Norwegian Eurovision pre-selection, Melodi Grand Prix. The event will take place as a single show on February 15, unlike recent years, which included semi-finals. Competing artists will be revealed on January 16.
The Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, has released initial details regarding the 2025 Melodi Grand Prix, Norway’s Eurovision pre-selection event. For the first time in several years, the competition will consist of a single show on February 15, eliminating the semi-final rounds that were featured in recent editions.
Last year’s Melodi Grand Prix included three semi-finals, where public voting determined three finalists from each round to advance to the grand final. The final results were decided by a 60/40 split between public votes and an international jury, with greater weight given to public voting. Additionally, contestants were allowed to use autotune in their performances, despite it being prohibited in the Eurovision Song Contest itself.
This year, the Melodi Grand Prix returns to its roots, featuring a single-show format for the first time since 2019. The event is scheduled for February 15, 2025, and will be held at the Oslo Spektrum, one of Norway’s largest venues, which also hosted the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest. Ten artists will compete in this year’s pre-selection, with their names set to be revealed during a press event on January 16. At this stage, it remains unclear whether the final results will continue to prioritize public voting, and it is likely that the use of autotune will remain permitted, as in the past two years.
The show will be hosted by Marte Stokstad, Tete Lidbom, and Markus Neby. Stokstad previously hosted the competition in 2010 and 2012, while Neby served as Norway’s Eurovision commentator in 2015. Stokstad will also provide commentary during the Melodi Grand Prix final in addition to her hosting duties.
