History repeats itself? Just before Norway reveals the contestants for “Melodi Grand Prix 2025,” it’s been announced that the 1985 Eurovision winners will return to compete for the chance to represent Norway in Eurovision 2025!
Tomorrow, the Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, is set to officially announce the ten participants for “Melodi Grand Prix 2025” at a press conference scheduled for 12:00 PM (CST) in Studio 1 in Oslo, the same venue where previous years’ artists were unveiled. The winner of “Melodi Grand Prix 2025” will earn the honor of representing Norway at Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland. Now it has been revealed that the 1985 Eurovision winners, the legendary duo Bobbysocks, are ready to recreate the magic from four decades ago!
It has been 40 years since Elisabeth Andreassen (66) and Hanne Krogh (68) stunned their competition with their iconic song “La det swinge,” earning 126 points in the grand final held in Sweden and securing Norway’s first-ever Eurovision victory. Now, this sensational duo is prepared to take the stage once more.
According to reports in Norwegian media, these stars are planning a groundbreaking comeback at this year’s national selection. Rumors suggest they might don retro 80s-style costumes, a move that would undoubtedly send fans into a nostalgic frenzy. The singers reflected on their unforgettable victory during a 2005 interview: “The whole evening was simply incredible. We received eight 12-point scores, and everyone around us was just amazed.”
Since that iconic win, the duo has pursued remarkable solo careers while maintaining a close friendship. Now, they are set to reunite on stage, reminding everyone why they became such an enduring symbol of Norwegian and European music.
Melodi Grand Prix 2025: Key Details
This year, the Melodi Grand Prix competition faces significant format changes. For the first time since 2019, the contest will be held without semi-finals. The show will take place on February 15, 2025, at Oslo Spektrum, one of Norway’s largest venues, which also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996.
In the previous edition, the Melodi Grand Prix featured three semi-finals, with public voting determining three artists from each semi-final to advance to the grand final. The final results were decided through a 60/40 combination of public votes and an international jury, with greater weight given to the audience’s votes. Additionally, last year’s contest allowed contestants to use autotune, even though it is prohibited in the Eurovision Song Contest itself.
Norway in Eurovision 2024
Gåte represented Norway at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Ulveham”. The band won the Norwigian national finals “MGP”. Norway advanced to the Eurovision final after placing tenth in the second semi-final with 43 points. In the grand final, Norway finished in 25th and last place with 16 points. This marks the first time since Eurovision 2012 that Norway has finished last, and the twelfth time overall since joining the competition.
