San Marino’s national broadcaster, SMRTV, announced that over 1,200 contestants from 48 countries applied for their Eurovision national selection. The next stage is the semi-finals, with the representative chosen on March 8th.
San Marino’s national broadcaster, SMRTV, has recently conducted numerous auditions, both live and online, for their Eurovision national selection “San Marino Song Contest,” which will choose the country’s representative for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. With the registration and casting phase now closed, the broadcaster reveals that over 1,200 applicants from 48 different countries have registered for the national selection, including participants from Brazil, Canada, Suriname, and many from Spain.
The next stage of the competition will be the semi-finals, scheduled to begin in mid-February and span several days. The San Marino representative for Eurovision 2025 will be chosen in the grand final on March 8th.
Competition Format and Selection Process
The San Marino national selection, newly named “San Marino Song Contest,” will culminate on March 8th. The initial phase of the selection process included registration and a “casting” stage, which will narrow down the field to 80 contestants. These participants will advance to the semi-final round, consisting of four regular semi-finals, an additional semi-final for local artists, and a “second chance” semi-final. From these semi-finals, 11 artists will progress to the final, where the winner will be chosen by a panel of five judges.
It’s worth noting that one contestant has already secured a direct entry to the first semi-final of the San Marino Song Contest. Justine Mayer from France won this opportunity after claiming victory in the “Tour Music Fest” music competition held in San Marino on Sunday, December 1, 2024. As part of her prize, Mayer was guaranteed a spot in the first semi-final, bypassing the audition stage.
The local contest aims to incorporate the participation of new and established artists from around the world, to allow for musical diversity and quality along with the ability of the ‘San Marino Song Contest’ to serve as a springboard in the international music industry. San Marino has used the local competition as its selection process for Eurovision representatives since 2022 and has so far failed to qualify for the final.

The grand final of the “San Marino Song Contest” was initially planned for February 22nd, then pushed to February 23rd. Now it’s revealed to be postponed to March 8th, competing with other countries broadcasting their pre-selections on the same date, such as Sweden and Portugal.
