Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Eurosong 2025. Who should represent Belgium at Eurovision according to the editorial team?
The Belgian Eurovision national selection, “Eurosong 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 20:55, featuring 8 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Belgium at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Belgian national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Belgium?
Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Jelle Van Dael – “Monster”
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Mentissa – “Désolée”
The Belgian national selection, initially touted as strong, ultimately proved to be one of the average selections of the season. Nevertheless, Mentissa, whom I initially marked as a favorite, did not disappoint and delivered an excellent disco song with a French flair. While it’s not as grandiose and Eurovision-esque as Red Sebastian’s “Strobe Lights”, which is Mentissa’s main competitor, it works! Mentissa sings well; she’s a strong vocalist who showcases her beautiful voice even in a fun song that shouldn’t be too challenging to perform. I hope she makes it to Eurovision, she certainly deserves it!
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Lenn Neefs – “Air Balloon”
I chose Lenn Neefs with the song “Air Balloon” to win the Belgian selection, undoubtedly the most deserving song and artist among all the participants! Belgium is leading in the betting odds for a reason, and it’s unequivocally this guy. His song is emotional, empowering, and uplifting, and with each new listen, it brings a smile to my face. Lenn is a talented and professional singer who can bring Belgium an amazing result in the final, possibly even a Eurovision victory! He will bring his positivity, joy, and cheerfulness to the competition and make all of Europe shed a tear.
Guy Solo: First Place – Red Sebastian – “Strobe Lights”
Although I really like the song “Fille à papa” (in English: “Daddy’s Girl”) by contestant Le Manou, my winning song is undoubtedly “Strobe Lights” by the relatively unknown singer Red Sebastian. At 25, he’s already a phenomenon in the Belgian music industry, and now he’s leading the betting odds for Eurovision 2025. The singer shared in an interview about his deep connection to Eurovision, “I’ve always dreamed of being on that stage since I was a little boy.”
As an artist, he tends to blend different genres while maintaining authenticity and honesty in every creation. Through his strong and impressive voice, Sebastian manages to convey genuine and powerful emotions, allowing him to create a deep connection with listeners. He describes his musical influences as a combination of classic pop with touches of dance and electronics, promising a strong and energetic performance every time he takes the stage.
The song touches on an out-of-body and magical experience, with lyrics describing a stunning fantasy world where time stands still and emotional connections transcend the boundaries of words. The song expresses an attempt to escape everyday reality through a journey to new and wonderful dimensions, where emotional communication occurs without the need for speech. There’s no doubt that this is a talented creator we’ll hear much more about, and perhaps the winner of Eurovision 2025 has already been revealed to us!
Noy Yehoyada: First Place – Stefanie Callebaut – “Gloria”
Although Belgium is currently in first place in the betting odds, I really don’t understand why. Their selection this year is very weak, and there’s no song that screams “winner” for Eurovision. Nevertheless, I chose Stefanie Callebaut’s song “Gloria” as my number 1 from the selection because I think its performance is iconic. The singer fully feels the song and delivers it in a dramatic way that made me unable to take my eyes off the screen. Despite the small and simple stage provided to the contestants in the selection to present their songs, Stefanie manages to deliver a captivating performance that looks good through lighting and her vocal abilities. If she can capture my attention on such a simple stage, I’m sure she’ll be able to conquer the stage in Basel as well.
I would like to mention my second-place song, “Désolée”. It’s a stunning song with a wonderful and simple performance, and very catchy. In my opinion, singer Mentissa also deserves to win.
Shahar Asido: First Place – Red Sebastian – “Strobe Lights”
My first place goes to Red Sebastian with the song “Strobe Lights”. After the contestants’ performances were released, there’s no doubt that this is a singer who knows how to sing live, and together with the song, it’s the best package Belgium can choose to represent them with honor. There’s no doubt that this is a surprisingly positive selection process with such unique choices (which is not typical for Belgium).
Tal Dahan: First Place – Mentissa – “Désolée”
Roy Moreno: First Place – Red Sebastien – “Strobe Lights”
After a prolonged period where Belgium led the betting odds even before the national selection songs were released, expectations were significantly raised, and with great expectations come great disappointments. This is not as strong a selection as I anticipated, and in my opinion, there isn’t a song worthy of the top spot in the betting odds. Nevertheless, my winner from this selection is Red Sebastian, who, as mentioned, I don’t see as a Eurovision winner, but his song feels the most Eurovision-ready and has the most character among the others. I‘m not sure where this song will take Belgium in Eurovision, but it’s the only song among the competitors in the selection that could leave an impression.
Aviad Berger: First Place – Jelle Van Dael – “Monster”
Maayan Eli: First Place – Le Manou – “Fille à papa”
A song that stood out for its lightness and the club sound of the first decade of the 2000s. It’s easy to get hooked on, it’s refreshing and I loved the French lyrics and its rhythmic nature that could fit into any Eurovision party playlist. The nostalgic sound could be interesting from a staging perspective and encourages interesting use of screens and camera choreography during the performance.

Belgium in Eurovision 2024
Singer Mustii represented Belgium in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2024 with the song “Before The Party’s Over”. The singer and song were chosen through an internal selection by the Belgian national broadcaster. In the Eurovision semi-final, the song placed 13th with 18 points, and therefore did not advance to the grand final. This is Belgium’s lowest result since Eurovision 2019, when Belgium also failed to qualify for the final and placed 13th in the semi-final.
Eurovision 2025: This will be Belgium’s 66th participation in Eurovision. Belgium joined the competition in 1956 and was one of the seven founding countries. Belgium achieved its best result in Eurovision 1986 when singer Sandra Kim won first place with the song “J’aime la vie”.
