Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Eurosong 2025. Who should represent Ireland at Eurovision according to the editorial team?
The Irish Eurovision national selection, “Eurosong 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 22:35, featuring 6 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Ireland at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Irish national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Ireland?
Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Bobbi Arlo – “Powerplay”
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Emmy – “Laika Party”
The Irish selection this year is not good, but much better than last year’s. Emmy’s participation surprised me a lot considering she’s Norwegian and not at all connected to Ireland. Her song is fun, party-like, and current, it’s the best in this Eurovision selection, but I find it hard to believe she’ll be chosen and I predict a victory for Bobbi Arlo. In any case, whether Bobbi is chosen or Emmy – Ireland will probably qualify for the final this year!
Guy Solo: First Place – Emmy – “Laika Party”
The Irish selection this year is very disappointing. In my opinion, none of the songs are strong enough to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2025, and I think whoever is chosen won’t qualify for the final. Still, the only song I managed to connect with a little is “Laika Party” by Emmy. The song tells the story of Laika, the first dog sent to space, through a romantic and touching interpretation. The song raises a description of Laika’s courage and sacrifice, sent alone to the dark and vast space, and despite the loneliness and abandonment she experienced, there’s hope presented that she’s still alive, circling around us and celebrating in space. The song talks about Laika’s love for flying and the hope that she continues to dance among the stars every night, thus becoming an eternal heroine for humanity. With electronic pop influences and a song with an emotional message – Emmy is the worthy choice to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2025!
Aviad Berger: First Place – Samantha Mumba – “My Way”
Truthfully, it’s difficult for me to talk about Ireland after last year, but if I speak purely professionally, Ireland has a very likable national selection this year, and except for one song, I like all the songs here. For first place, I chose Samantha Mumba. In my opinion, it’s a strong and powerful song that could easily score high thanks to the juries. I’m hoping a bit that the national broadcaster in Ireland will learn lessons and know how to prepare their candidate for a non-political Eurovision!
Roy Moreno: First Place – Emmy – “Laika Party”
The Irish Eurovision national selection this year isn’t particularly different from previous years, not even from the 2024 selection, which provided Ireland with a very impressive result at Eurovision – sixth place in the final. However, last year they were lucky to include one song that was good enough to achieve that result, unlike this time. This selection is quite weak as it is every year, and I don’t foresee Ireland getting a particularly good result in Basel, if they make it to the final at all. In my opinion, “Laika Party” is among the only songs in the selection that might be a worthy song for Ireland among the options, and therefore it’s also my winner. The song is overall well-made, rhythmic, and quite catchy, so even if it doesn’t make it to the final, at least it’s a nice song to listen to.
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Emmy – “Laika Party”
In my opinion, the Irish selection is weak this year as it is every year, there’s no particular song that surprises or is a candidate for winning. My personal winner is Emmy, who is actually Norwegian and has participated in the Norwegian Eurovision selection in the past but found her way to Ireland this time with an amazing, catchy, and even touching song with a sad meaning! “Laika Party” is one of my favorite songs this season and I think it’s the most deserving to win the selection, and will bring a guaranteed high result for Ireland with the right staging and excellent vocal performance.
Shahar Asido: First Place – Reylta – “Fire”
Tal Dahan: First Place – Emmy – “Laika Party”
In my opinion, the Irish Eurovision selection this year is very weak. For lack of choice, I chose the song that stood out the most to me among all the rest – “Laika Party” by Emmy, a singer who competed in the Norwegian Eurovision selection in the past and I loved her song then too. Although the song doesn’t innovate much, I liked its rhythmic and danceable nature and the dance-pop atmosphere, while the song even reminds me of another great song from last year’s Norwegian Eurovision selection – “My AI”. We can only hope that Emmy’s performance will be prominent enough on the selection and Eurovision stage.
Maayan Eli: First Place – Bobbi Arlo – “Powerplay”
It’s a fun song to listen to and unique enough to stand out at Eurovision, both in terms of the playlist and as a performance. It has stage and dramatic potential that can be expected. Ireland showed last year that they can be strong in performance, Bobbi Arlo has a chance to prove it again. Powerplay is diverse with a rhythm that’s fun to listen to and doesn’t get boring quickly. Without a doubt, Arlo is a worthy candidate to compete in Eurovision 2025 in Basel, at least in terms of the song.
