Finland at Eurovision 2025: The online petition calling for a boycott of the competition and demanding to prevent Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2025 is expanding, and even receives an official response from the Finnish national broadcaster!

In Finland, a country of approximately 5.5 million inhabitants, a protest has emerged calling for Israel‘s exclusion from the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. The petition, published by “Sumud”, the Finnish Network for Palestine, urges the Finnish national broadcaster, Yle, to demand that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) prevent Israel’s participation in the competition. The petition, launched last month, has grown to over 10,000 citizen signatures and an additional 500 artists and creators.

In previous years, similar calls to boycott Israel were heard, especially in Nordic countries like Norway and Iceland, where numerous demonstrations against Israel’s participation took place. However, this year has seen relative silence on the issue in these countries, with the Finnish protest standing out as somewhat isolated.

The Finnish national broadcaster addressed the petition today, likely in light of the renewed conflict. Johanna Torn Mangs, head of original content and communications at the Finnish national broadcaster, said in an interview: “We understand that Finns are concerned about the situation in Gaza. Yle is not boycotting Eurovision due to the participation of the Israeli national broadcaster, however, this does not mean that we support any military activity or human suffering in any situation.”

Reports suggest that this movement is unlikely to succeed, given that Finnish representative Erika Vikman has already been to Basel, Switzerland, to film the official postcard that will be broadcast before Finland‘s performance in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025, scheduled for May 15. Currently, Finland is ranked sixth in the betting odds, with a 4% chance of winning.
