“It deeply saddens me that the contest has become political”: Klavdia, Greece’s Eurovision 2025 representative, responded to the statement by the new Eurovision winner regarding Israel’s participation. How did she react to his remarks?
Yesterday (Thursday), Klavdia, Greece’s Eurovision 2025 representative, received an award from the Greek national broadcaster ERT and, alongside it, made a sweeping statement against the ongoing politicization of the contest in recent times. When asked about the comments made by JJ, the Eurovision 2025 winner, regarding the exclusion of Israel from the competition, she did not remain indifferent and directly opposed the use of politics in Eurovision.
“The Contest Has Become Political”
When Klavdia was asked about JJ’s pointed statement – that Israel should be excluded from the contest – she gave a clear and straightforward answer. Klavdia made a firm decision, which she has upheld throughout the competition:
“It’s a song contest. It deeply saddens me that it’s becoming political. I made the decision long ago — and still stand by it — not to politicize Eurovision. I hope that one day Eurovision will once again be purely a song contest, without any political involvement, where everything is fair and it’s celebrated for its music”.
Compared to JJ, who expressed his frustration through strong statements that he later attempted to soften, Klavdia has maintained a steady and thoughtful approach over the past several months. She has consistently shown respect for the contest’s rules and purpose, and has demonstrated a sincere commitment to bringing joy to both her fans and the wider audience.
Greece Commits to the True Values of Eurovision
As time goes by, the world seems to be closing in on Israel, with various national broadcasters increasingly agitated against the country. The last three contest winners have shown a consistent line of opposition to Israel’s participation, with JJ joining Nemo Mettler, last year’s winner, and Loreen, the 2023 Eurovision winner who adamantly refused to hand over the trophy in the event that Eden Golan‘s song would win.
In contrast, Greece emerges as a beacon of light. The Greek representative, Klavdia, smiled at everyone and did not express opposition to any person or country. The Greek delegation as a whole was exceptionally friendly. Evidently, warmth and kindness pay off, as Klavdia and Greece achieved the country’s best result since 2009, matching the sixth-place finish from Eurovision 2013, and Klavdia received enthusiastic applause from audiences across Europe.
Unlike other European countries, Greece unites by music, and not divides through it!
Greece at Eurovision 2025
“Asteromáta” (in English: “Eyes of Stars”) is the song performed by Klavdia, who represented Greece in the grand final of Eurovision 2025. The song was written by the singer herself together with the creative team Arcade, who also wrote the songs that represented Greece in Eurovision 2020 and 2021, “Superg!rl” and “Last Dance“, for singer Stefania Liberakakis. The song is performed in Greek. Greece finished sixth in the grand final with 231 points.
“Asteromáta” deals with deep longing and pain over separation and loss, using romantic and poetic language. The singer addresses a loved one, calling them “my little star” and “starry eyes,” expressing her wish to be close, to feel their presence, and to find peace.
