Bulgaria approves a €20M Eurovision 2027 budget as Rumen Radev’s plans hint at the contest’s possible dates.
Following the victory of Dara for Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, the country has begun full-scale preparations to host Eurovision 2027. Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has already established a special task force to oversee the organization of the event and approved an operational roadmap. Now, a substantial production budget has also been approved. But has the schedule accidentally revealed the dates of Eurovision 2027?
The Bulgarian government has officially approved a budget of €20 million for the preparations and organization of Eurovision 2027. The significant funding was approved as part of the country’s draft state budget for next year and is accompanied by a comprehensive action plan adopted by the special task force established to ensure the successful delivery of the contest.
In addition, all key production roles – including the executive producer and artistic director – are set to be appointed by August 30th. A contract with the selected venue is expected to be signed by September 10th, while the event’s visual identity is scheduled to be finalized by mid-December. The official Eurovision 2027 website is expected to launch at the beginning of 2027, alongside the opening of ticket sales for the general public.
Production Costs Could Reach €30 Million
The total production costs for Eurovision 2027 are estimated to range between €20 million and €30 million, with the remaining funding expected to come from municipal budgets, sponsorship agreements, and support from the European Broadcasting Union.
Although the exact date of the Grand Final has not yet been officially announced, the published work schedule states that stage dismantling will take place between May 18th and May 24th. This effectively confirms that Eurovision 2027 will be held during the first half of May – most likely during the week of May 11th, 13th, and 15th.
Eurovision 2027 is expected to attract thousands of visitors, international media crews, and millions of television viewers from Europe and beyond, which provides a golden opportunity for unparalleled international visibility and tourism and economic promotion for Bulgaria.
Will Sofia Host Eurovision 2027?
Alongside the official announcement regarding the submission of bids, the name of the capital Sofia has generated quite a bit of interest online in recent days. During a BNT broadcast under the title “Eurovision 2027”, a caption suddenly appeared: “Canada will make its debut in the upcoming contest in Sofia”. The incident immediately sparked a wave of speculation among fans – whether this was an early reveal of the host city or simply a meaningless production blunder.
Beyond these rumors, Sofia’s candidacy faces a real bureaucratic challenge: reports in Bulgaria raise concerns that the city might not meet the contest’s threshold conditions due to the name of the arena included in its bid, “Arena 8888” (which previously hosted the Junior Eurovision in 2015). In September 2024, the arena’s management signed a sponsorship agreement with the online betting platform 8888.bg, a sponsorship that might conflict with EBU regulations.
