Swedish media has leaked five additional names expected to compete in Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s selection process for Eurovision. The list includes fan-favorites Dotter, veteran Nanne Grönvall, and Eurodance star E-Type.
The Swedish media published today (Monday) five additional names for Melodifestivalen, which will be the Swedish selection process for Eurovision 2027 to be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. This is a particularly impressive list: one of them competed in Melodifestivalen 2026, and another has already competed four times in the local Eurovision national final, and even finished in second place once after being the clear favorite to win.
Dotter

Dotter, the stage name of 39-year-old Johanna Maria Jansson, is a highly regarded Swedish singer-songwriter. She is particularly known and loved by Eurovision fans primarily for her four participations as a performer in Melodifestivalen. Dotter first participated with the song “Cry”, with which she was eliminated in the semi-final stage (6th place in the semi-final).
After the failure, Dotter returned bigger than ever in 2020 with the hit “Bulletproof”, which was the big favorite of that year. The song reached second place in the final, with a gap of only one point from first place. The following year, Dotter returned with the song “Little Tot”, this time finishing in fourth place. Dotter took a short break which ended in 2024 when she returned with the ballad “It’s Not Easy To Write A Love Song”, but this time finished in 12th and last place in the final of Melodifestivalen.
Eva Jumatate
Eva Jumatate is an 18-year-old singer who made her debut in the national final last year with the emotional ballad “Selfish”, with which she qualified for the repechage (second chance) stage. Eva is known in Sweden as a child prodigy, thanks to her participation in the Swedish version of “Got Talent” at the age of 11 where she finished in second place. In addition, she has managed to appear in musicals and television series.
Martin “E-Type” Erikson
During this past summer, the team of Eurodance star Martin “E-Type” Erikson began locating suitable songs for Melodifestivalen. Many are now reporting that E-Type is one of the first artists to receive a green light from the Swedish national broadcaster (SVT) to participate in the competition next year. A source familiar with the details noted that SVT tried to recruit him for years, and although Martin did not rule out the idea entirely, the key for him was to find the exact right song.
If the reports turn out to be true, this will be the third time the artist participates in the competition, having first been on stage in 2004 with the song “Paradise” which reached fifth place in the final, and again in 2008 alongside the band The Poodles with the song “Line of Fire” which fell in the Second Chance stage. Also, this will be the first new music E-Type has released since 2019, except for a song released in 2025 as part of an advertising campaign.
Nanne Grönvall
Veteran Melodifestivalen star Nanne Grönvall is expected to return to take part in the competition next year as a performing singer. Grönvall has previously participated in the competition eight times as a singer and six additional times as a songwriter. Her peak achievement was recorded in 1996, when she won Melodifestivalen with the band One More Time and the song “Den vilda” (“The Wild One”), which later reached a respectable third place in Eurovision. Her last appearance in the competition was in 2020 with the song “Carpool Karaoke”, which was eliminated in the semi-final stage.
Now, various sources behind the scenes of the competition confirm that the artist will return to the big stage. According to a source familiar with the details, the idea for a comeback was likely born following the act she put on in the competition this past spring. Sources further testify that the intended song is an upbeat pop track that is particularly characteristic of her style.
Per Andersson
Per Andersson, one of the most recognized and beloved comedians and actors in Sweden, has appeared in Melodifestivalen several times in the past. The last time was in 2021, when he hosted one of the semi-finals alongside Pernilla Wahlgren and Christer Björkman. Even earlier, in 2011, his character was integrated into the interval acts and artist introductions in the competition, and in 2013 he participated in particularly memorable interval acts where he played artists whose songs were rejected.
However, this time it is a new step for the comedian – as he is expected to take the stage for the first time as a competing singer in the competition.
Additional Names Already Revealed
- The band EMD was reported in the Swedish newspaper Expressen and participated in Melodifestivalen 2009 where they lost to Malena Ernman. The band consists of Danny Saucedo and Erik Segerstedt who both had appearances in Melodifestivalen very recently, in addition to Mattias Andréasson who is also a past participant of Melodifestivalen 2012 where he lost to Loreen who also won the entire Eurovision.
The band operated between the years 2007 and 2010, and has now reunited for a joint concert tour. The three will necessarily compete in the fifth heat of Melodifestivalen, as their schedule is not free the rest of the time, and there is a gap in the concert tour between February 27th and March 19th.
Also this year, Melodifestivalen will serve as the Swedish Eurovision national final. This is the 64th year in which the Swedish song will be chosen on this platform, through which all of Sweden’s representatives to Eurovision have been chosen except for its first participation in Eurovision 1958, where the singer Alice Babs was chosen directly, and except for Sweden’s absences from the competition in the years 1964, 1970, and 1976.
Some of the interesting rules of the competition that continue this year include SVT’s ambition to include 30% of the songs in the competition performed mainly in the Swedish language, and that at least 50% of the selected songs will include female creators (only women, or a combination of men and women). Also, an artist who performs the song chosen to represent Sweden in Eurovision at Melodifestivalen is not guaranteed as the performer of the song in Eurovision as well, and this is subject to the discretion of SVT. Further details about the structure of Melodifestivalen 2027 will be revealed in due course.
Last Year’s Melodifestivalen Format
- Heats (Deltävlingar): The competition consisted of five heats, and in each of them six songs competed. From each heat, the two songs that received the most votes from the audience at home advanced directly to the grand final.
- Final Qualification Stage (Finalkval): The songs that reached third place in each of the five heats received an additional opportunity. This stage was held as a flash vote immediately at the end of the fifth heat, and from it the Swedish audience chose the last two songs to complete the list of finalists.
- Grand Final (Final): In the climax stage of the competition, 12 songs competed for the ticket to Eurovision. The identity of the winner was determined by weighting the votes of the Swedish audience at home together with points awarded by international juries, in an equal distribution of fifty percent to each side.
Will the Eurovision Powerhouse Continue the Tradition?
Sweden is considered a Eurovision powerhouse, as in its 64 participations it has won seven times and shares the title of “record holder of victories” together with Ireland. Interestingly, from these two countries also came the only two singers who won two different Eurovision competitions – the first singer was Johnny Logan from Ireland, who won Eurovision 1980 and Eurovision 1987. And the second singer was Loreen from Sweden, who won Eurovision 2012 and Eurovision 2023.
Sweden is considered a highly successful country in the competition, having reached one of the top five places no less than 28 times – finishing the competition seven times in first place, once in second place, six times in third place, four times in fourth place, and another ten times in fifth place. Sweden reached one of the 6th to 10th places another 17 times.
Eurovision 2027: This will be Sweden’s 65th participation in Eurovision. Sweden joined the competition in 1958, and has won it seven times over the years. Sweden’s last victory was in Eurovision 2023 with the song “Tattoo” performed by the singer Loreen.
