ČT officially confirms its withdrawal from the contest in a heartbreaking farewell post, announces the cancellation of the Eurovision broadcast in the country, and sparks a storm on social media.
After we previously reported here on EuroMix about the withdrawal following extensive budget cuts, a detailed and painful message dedicated to supporters, artists, and the entire community was published on the delegation’s official Instagram page, a message that puts an end to the rumors and officially confirms the country’s absence from the upcoming contest. Eurovision fans across Europe had hoped to see the Czech delegation take part in the Eurovision 2027 contest that will be held in the city of Burgas, Bulgaria, but it now turns out that this dream has been shelved.

“Some news is not easy to share”
“Some news is not easy to share.” This is how Czech Television opened its official post. The statement noted that the network understands how much the contest means to everyone, and therefore they wish to thank past representatives and especially the fans for every vote, comment, and support over the years. The network declared that although the Czech flag will not be seen on stage in 2027, they will continue to cheer for the other participants and hope to meet again at Eurovision in the future. Later in the post, gratitude was expressed to the representatives who represented the Czech music scene with dedication and creativity, noting that Eurovision remains an exceptional platform that connects music and audiences across Europe.
Heavy Production Demands and Cancellation of the Local Broadcast
In a series of Q&As attached to the announcement, Czech Television addressed the reasons for the withdrawal and explained that the Eurovision Song Contest is a large-scale project with significant programming, production, and organizational demands. In light of the budget adjustments currently underway, the decision was made not to take part in the 2027 contest. Regarding a future return, the network clarified that it evaluates each edition of the contest separately, and therefore does not wish to speculate on when it will return to participate. In addition, it was reported that Czech Television does not plan to purchase a broadcast license for the upcoming contest. Fans will be able to watch the official live stream on the Eurovision YouTube channel and vote for their favorites, with their votes being counted in the “Rest of the World” category.
Stormy Reactions on Social Media
The official post immediately triggered a wave of emotional reactions from fans and crew members. Ahmad Halloun, who served as Head of Press for the Czech delegation in recent years, wrote: “The only thing I would like to say in my very humble Czech is: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your trust. It was a huge honor for me to be a part of all this. I hope we made you all proud”.
Fans expressed deep frustration and disappointment over the news. One commenter shared that it is very hard to read, but she believes the delegation will return stronger in the future. Another commenter expressed disappointment that she was already prepared to take a flag and travel to cheer live in Burgas. Among the other comments were messages like “we will miss you” and “I hope you return soon”, alongside shocked reactions from users who struggled to believe it and shared their frustration with the decision.
