Joost Klein, the Dutch representative for Eurovision 2024, has released a new single titled “Filthy Dog.” Klein, who represented the Netherlands with the song “Europapa” and gained significant popularity by finishing second in the semi-finals, continues to captivate audiences across Europe despite his controversial disqualification.

Eurovision Journey and Unexpected Disqualification

Joost Klein was set to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Europapa,” which garnered widespread acclaim. However, he faced an unprecedented situation when he was disqualified just hours before the grand final due to a backstage incident. This marked the first-ever disqualification of a contestant on the day of the competition. Despite this setback, Klein’s popularity continued to soar among fans across Europe. The singer has even hinted at a potential return to the Eurovision stage in 2025.

New Single “Filthy Dog” Gains Traction

Riding on the wave of his recent European success, Joost Klein released his latest single “Filthy Dog” yesterday. The song has already garnered significant attention at festivals across Europe under its German title “Schweinhund.” This marks Klein’s first venture into combining English and German lyrics without the use of Dutch, showcasing his linguistic versatility.

Klein wrote “Filthy Dog” in collaboration with Ruben Van Der Ent and Teun de Kruif. De Kruif also contributed to Klein’s Eurovision 2024 entry and co-wrote “TRAFIK!”, Klein’s collaboration with Käärijä, Finland’s Eurovision 2023 representative. The song features a heavy, monotonous rhythm and runs for less than two minutes. Its narrative follows a Dutch person trying to fit in at a German party but being labeled a “filthy dog.” Despite its simple lyrics, the song’s intense techno style demonstrates Klein’s exceptional musical ability.
