The Ukrainian national broadcaster, Suspilne, has announced that 374 songs were submitted for “Vidbir 2025,” the Eurovision national selection. The list of songs for the selection will be chosen through a combination of a professional committee and public voting, with the final list to be published on January 17.

The Ukrainian national broadcaster, Suspilne, has reported that 374 songs were submitted for the Eurovision national selection “Vidbir 2025.” This represents a slight decrease compared to the 389 songs submitted for the Ukrainian national selection in 2024. The submission window was open from September 17 to November 10. Suspilne noted that there were 369 applications to participate in the competition, indicating that some artists submitted more than one song. In total, 232 solo artists and 72 Ukrainian bands applied, along with foreign artists from Sweden, Germany, Poland, the USA, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Selection Process and Timeline

Suspilne recently published the expected schedule for the production of the 2025 Eurovision national selection. The Ukrainian Eurovision national selection “Vidbir 2025” will feature 10 songs. The selection process will involve an initial screening of the songs, from which 20 artists will be chosen to audition in front of the professional committee. On December 20, nine artists who will directly participate in the Ukrainian national selection will be announced. Among the artists who auditioned but were not selected by the committee, one artist will receive a wildcard chosen by the public through online voting.

Final Stages and Eurovision 2025

The final list of ten contestants is set to be published on January 17. The national selection broadcast is expected to take place on February 8, 2025, according to the Ukrainian producers’ plan. The winner of the national selection will be chosen through a combination of public voting (50%) and jury voting (50%) and will represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2025, to be held in Basel, Switzerland.

It was recently announced that Tina Karol, Ukraine’s representative at Eurovision 2006, will serve as the musical producer for the Ukrainian Eurovision national selection. Tina Karol commented, “I am happy to join the national selection team for Eurovision and to have the opportunity to support those taking their first steps in the Eurovision world as well as those returning for another attempt.” She added, “I am confident that we will see many excellent performers this year.”

Ukraine in Eurovision 2024

Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Teresa & Maria.” The duo won the Ukrainian national selection “Vidbir 2024” and finished third in the Eurovision final with 453 points.

Their entry is notable for being the first since 2002 to place in the top 5 while performing second in the running order, a position traditionally considered challenging in Eurovision statistics.
