The Annual Potential Troll, Swedish Billy Elliot, and a Former Melodifestivalen Artist – These Are the Additional Artists Expected to Compete in the Swedish Eurovision National Selection, Melodifestivalen 2025.
Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision, is one of the most popular and widely watched pre-Eurovision events. While the official list of contestants for Melodifestivalen 2025 has not yet been released, rumors about potential participants continue to circulate.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has revealed several new names expected to participate in Melodifestivalen 2025. Although this is not an official report from the national broadcaster SVT, Aftonbladet has a track record of accurately predicting contestants before the official announcement. Last year, they correctly predicted 29 out of 30 names.
Potential New Contestants
- Victoria Silvstedt, 50, is primarily known as a model and has worked with some of the world’s largest fashion brands. She’s also an entrepreneur and stock market investor. She was the first runner-up in the “Miss Sweden” competition and won Playboy’s “Playmate of the Month” in 1996 and Playmate of the Year the following year. She has also hosted the French and Italian versions of “Wheel of Fortune” and acted in series and films. In 2021, she participated in the Swedish version of “The Masked Singer.”
- Albin Johnsén, 35, is expected to compete in Melodifestivalen with a “Swedish party song with carnival drums.” He broke through in 2014 with the hit “Din soldat” (in English: “Your Soldier”) in Sweden and has competed twice before in the contest, in 2016 with “Rik” (in English: “Rich”) and in 2020 with “Livet börjar nu” (in English: “Life Begins Now”), but both times did not advance to the final. This time he’s competing in a completely new song style.
- Nomi Bontegard, a 27-year-old newcomer to the competition, is signed to the record company “Freebird,” whose artists have had great success in Melodifestivalen in the past. She works with Maria Molin Ljunggren, who has previously worked with Melodifestivalen and Eurovision artists such as Anna Bergendahl, Cornelia Jakobs, Robin Bengtsson, and others.
- Saga Ludvigsson, an 18-year-old singer, was a finalist in the Swedish music shows “Talang” (in 2019) and “Idol” (last year). She has been called a “pop star” since the age of 12 and has received much praise in the local music industry.
- Adrian Macéus, 19, also began his singing career at a young age when he played the lead role in the Stockholm Theater production of “Billy Elliot.” He has also dubbed in feature films.
Previously Reported Potential Contestants
Several other artists have been previously reported as potential participants, including Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw, Melodifestivalen 2016 winner Frans, Melodifestivalen 2019 winner John Lundvik, and the band Arvingarna. Other rumored contestants include Klara Hammarström, Annika Wickihalder, Scarlet, Dolly-Style, Malou Prytz, Andreas Lundstedt, Tennessee Tears, Angelino, Kristofer Greczula, Kaliffa, Maja Ivarsson, Meira Omar, Björn Holmgren, KAJ, Arwin, Erik Segerstedt, New Girl Group (Reports suggest that the group includes Maria Persson from Blender, Maria Rolf from Titanix, and Sandra Estberg from Martinez, Linnea Henriksson, Ella Tiritielo and Fredrik Lundman.
Melodifestivalen 2025 – What We Know So Far
This year, the Swedish national selection has attracted many artists, with reports of no fewer than 2,794 songs submitted for consideration. Thirty songs will compete in the contest, divided into five heats. In each heat, six songs will compete, with the top two songs advancing directly to the final. The songs ranked third will move to the Second Chance round, from which two more songs will be chosen. The Melodifestivalen final will feature 12 songs in total. The winner will be determined by a combination of international jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%). The heats will be held in different locations across Sweden over several weeks, as follows:
- First Heat: February 1, Coop Norrbotten Arena, Luleå
- Second Heat: February 8, Scandinavium, Gothenburg
- Third Heat: February 15, ABB Arena, Västerås
- Fourth Heat: February 22, Malmö Arena, Malmö
- Fifth Heat and Second Chance Round: March 1, Husqvarna Garden, Jönköping
- Grand Final: March 8, Friends Arena, Stockholm
Ticket sales for Melodifestivalen 2025 have opened on November 6. The hosts for the event will be Kristina “Keyyo” Petrushina and Edvin Tornblom.
Sweden in Eurovision 2024
“Unforgettable” is the name of the song performed by the duo Marcus & Martinus in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The duo was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision after winning the Swedish pre-selection, Melodifestivalen. Sweden finished ninth in the final with 174 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Sweden’s 63rd participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Sweden joined the competition in 1958 and has won it seven times over the years. Sweden’s most recent victory was at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Tattoo,” performed by the singer Loreen.
