Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Montesong 2024. Who should represent Montenegro at Eurovision 2025 according to the editorial team?

The Montenegrin national final, “Montesong”, will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, featuring 16 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Montenegro at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Out of 36 submitted songs, 16 were selected for the competition. The winner will be determined by a combination of 50% jury votes and 50% public votes, with songs required to include at least 51% in the Montenegrin language. Just before the national final, the Euromix editorial team convened to listen to the participating songs and choose their favorites from the Montenegrin national final.

Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Montenegro?

Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Anastasija Koprolčec – “Kraj”

We kick off Eurovision selection season with Montenegro returning after a two-year break—but with an extremely weak and unnecessary pre-selection. It’s disappointing. No song in this national final is likely to bring Montenegro to the final. Nevertheless, Anastasija Koprolčec’s song is the only one reminiscent of those sweeping Balkan ballads we love. Best of luck to Montenegro – they’ll need it!

Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Nina Žižić – “Dobrodošli”

My winner from Eurovision 2013, Nina Žižić, returns for another round at Eurovision, bringing a completely different style from her usual upbeat and fast-paced music. Her song is a well-crafted Balkan ballad that begins quietly and develops into a particularly powerful ending. Nina is known for her exceptional live performances and has already proven her skills when she performed with Who See at Eurovision 2013 with their song “Igranka“. The song “Dobrodošli” shows thoughtful creation and investment, and with a strong performance, it could secure a place in the Eurovision final. Good luck to Montenegro!

Roy Moreno: First Place – Anastasija Koprolčec – “Kraj”

While I can’t call it my clear winner in the national final selection because I find this year’s Montenegrin lineup rather weak, some songs stood out for having a complete package—a well-structured and quality song performed by a good singer. Among them, my winner is Anastasija Koprolčec with the song “Kraj“! Thanks to the early timing of the national final, Montenegro has plenty of time to make adjustments and improvements to the winning song. I hope they reach the final to have motivation for Eurovision 2026 participation.

Maayan Eli: First Place – Baryak – “Dva Srca”

I chose “Dva Srca” by the band Baryak as my first place because it stood out among other songs on the list due to its unique genre that takes us into rock territories and its relative versatility. It conveys a rock ballad vibe and is engaging to listen to. I believe it has serious visual potential in terms of direction and camera angles as well as video art and artistic concept that could be wonderful for the Eurovision stage.

Aviad Berger: First Place – Tamara Živković – “Poguban let”

How exciting! Montenegro returns after a two-year absence. One of the less successful countries in the competition, with only two finals appearances overall, managed to secure the necessary funding to return with a bang! Well… maybe not win. Honestly speaking, this season’s first pre-selection is likely one of their weakest. I’d be happy to be proven wrong, but it’s uncertain if Montenegro’s 13th participation will bring any breakthrough or even qualify for the final. My first place in the selection belongs to Tamara Živković. Like last year’s second place, she reached her country’s selection only after an unexpected withdrawal.

Guy Solo: First Place – Tamara Živković – “Poguban let”

Tamara and her song represent the perfect blend of powerful emotion, artistic honesty, and breathtaking vocal performance. The song resonates between dramatic balladry and modern pop, telling a personal and moving story that connects authentically with the audience. The musical arrangement is rich and dynamic, combining elements of Montenegrin tradition with contemporary production suitable for an international stage. Tamara herself brings natural charisma, a unique voice, and a presence that touches listeners’ hearts, while her polished performance clarifies that she’s not just a singer, but a true artist. With potential for a high placement in the grand final of Eurovision 2025, “Poguban let is, in my opinion, the perfect choice to represent Montenegro this year.

Hen Feder: First Place – Nina Žižić – “Dobrodošli”

In my opinion, this is a relatively weak selection and not how a country should return to competition after being absent. A better investment was needed, but if returning to Eurovision means a full comeback, then Nina can represent Montenegro in the best way possible. I hope she is chosen—with a decent song that could be exciting on stage.

Ronnie Glik: First Place – Baryak – “Dva Srca”

I placed the band Baryak first, or more accurately, the Montenegrin version of “Deftones,” which brought us a song that could give Montenegro a borderline spot in the semi-final. In my opinion, the chances of any song advancing are extremely low. It’s a good song, and I hope it wins the selection and its place isn’t taken. I truly hope there will be some rock from Balkan countries at Eurovision because the chances of advancing with a typical female ballad are even lower! Good luck to this unique band, and see you in the semi-final (and probably we’ll stay there…).

Tal Dahan: First Place – Đurđa – “To Ljubav Je”

The Montenegrin national final is indeed the first of this season but opens with one of its weakest selections since many songs lack quality. One song that I connected with nonetheless was “To Ljubav Je” by Đurđa, which stood out for its simplicity. It reminds me of old Israeli songs but in a foreign language. It will be very interesting to see Montenegro with such a song, but the country will need to put a lot of effort into amazing staging to succeed in the competition.

Shahar Asido: First Place – Milena Vučić – “Škorpija”

The song I chose for first place is the only one I believe has enough potential to reach the big stage. The Montenegrin selection isn’t particularly strong, any chosen song will need new arrangements from my perspective.
