The Latvian Eurovision national selection, “Supernova 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 20:10 featuring 10 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Latvia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Latvian national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Latvia?
Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Emilija – “Heartbeat“
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Citi Zeni – “Ramtai”
The Latvian national selection this year surprised me very positively, improving significantly from one of the weakest selections last year! My winners in this selection are Citi Zēni with their song “Ramtai”. I was very excited when I heard that Citi Zēni were returning to the Latvian selection this year, as they were among my favorites in 2022, and I really enjoyed meeting them – they are very nice! The song fits the band’s playful spirit; it’s catchy and powerful, like at a trance party. I’m very curious to see the song on the Eurovision stage, and I do expect it to qualify for the final, great job Latvia!
Guy Solo: First Place – Emilija – “Heartbeat“
I was deeply disappointed by the performances in this year’s Latvian national selection. After the promising release of the songs, I was sure we would finally see Latvia in its full glory – dominating Eurovision. But the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment. All the stage performances were mediocre and amateurish, and it seems that no one in Latvia has a real desire to compete in Eurovision. The biggest disappointment was “Līgo” by The Ludvig, whose performance and staging made me lose hope for Latvia in Eurovision. The only one who somehow managed to cope with this amateur show was Emilija with “Heartbeat”. The singer took the stage in the semi-final with simple clothes and a guitar, captivating the studio and home audience with her soft and pleasant voice. The song, which deals with coping with anxieties and internal conflicts and encourages finding calm by listening to the heart’s voice, is simply too generic and unmemorable. Latvia will not make it through the semi-final in Basel, and perhaps it’s better if they join Moldova and simply withdraw.
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Citi Zeni – “Ramtai”
This year’s Latvian national selection is significantly stronger, and any choice will be a huge upgrade from their selection last year. My top pick is the amazing band Citi Zēni with “Ramtai”! I won’t lie, it’s the best song of the season! Citi Zēni weren’t my favorites at all when they participated in Eurovision 2022, in fact, they were at the bottom of my list. The incredible improvement and genre change they’ve made since then is indescribable!!! This is a perfect rap song, in the beautiful Latvian language, and one of the most unforgettable performances I’ve seen! Although I’m not usually in favor of past artists returning, they must, must fly to Eurovision again this year and succeed big time! Their return is undoubtedly the biggest improvement an artist can undergo. No one is more deserving than them to bring Latvia the win!!!
Shahar Asido: First Place – Citi Zeni – “Ramtai”
There’s no doubt that the Latvian Eurovision national selection has raised its level from previous years! In my first place is the amazing band, Citi Zēni, who represented Latvia in Eurovision 2022 and already then managed to win my heart. This year they decided to return with a song in their native language, Latvian, unlike the previous time, and in an interview we did for you on our YouTube channel, you can get all the interesting information about their song and the story behind it.
Roy Moreno: First Place – The Ludvig – “Ligo”
As every year, I don’t have high expectations from the Latvian national selection, but I do think there’s an interesting song here that can properly represent Latvia and its culture – and that’s “Līgo”. It’s a catchy and unique song that really puts Latvia on the stage, and in my opinion, it will stand out the most among the other contestants in the selection. Will the song manage to keep Latvia in the Eurovision final after finally qualifying for it last year? It’s hard to say, but I hope we’ll see Latvia maintaining the success from 2024!
Tal Dahan: First Place – Citi Zeni – “Ramtai”
Maayan Eli: First Place – Tautumeitas – “Bur Man Laimi“
In my opinion, the Latvian national selection is generally weak, and the song “Bur Man Laimi” manages to stand out because it’s different, ethnic, and will be easily identifiable in a playlist. It has a repetitive rhythm and is pleasant to the ear. It could be interesting on stage, and the performance is what could elevate it. After all – in Eurovision, it all comes down to the show
