Croatia at Eurovision 2025: Marko Bošnjak, the winner of “Dora 2025”, will perform “Poison Cake” at Eurovision 2025. He reveals dramatic changes to his performance. What will change?

“Poison Cake” is the song that will be performed by Marko Bošnjak, who will represent Croatia in the second half of the first semifinal of Eurovision 2025, taking place on May 13 in Basel, Switzerland. Marko shared exciting updates regarding his preparations for the competition in a detailed interview on a popular Croatian TV show, emphasizing the intense work he’s putting into ensuring a strong performance on the Eurovision stage.

“No one is setting high expectations for me”

According to Marko, the preparation period hasn’t been easy, especially when he had to wake up early for interviews and rehearsals. “Of course, it’s not easy waking up early. I’ve been working hard lately on a lot of things, and it definitely takes a toll on my sleep, but I’m handling it with satisfaction,” he said with a smile.

Later, he spoke about the great significance of his participation in Eurovision, saying that since no one has high expectations for him, he feels freer to give his best without pressure: “I know what we can offer, and I’m really happy that no one is setting high expectations for me. I aim to represent Croatia in the best way possible.”

The Making of the Music Video

The work on the music video for the song involved some unique challenges, as the video features Marko alongside a massive python. “It’s not a venomous snake, it’s my friend Abdul. It’s a python that’s two meters long and weighs seven kilograms,” Marko explained. “The snake wasn’t very happy at the end of the shoot, and it almost managed to remove me from the set when it tightened around my neck. It was scary, but also an amazing experience, as I’ve been afraid of snakes my whole life.” Watch the full video here:

Dramatic Changes to the Eurovision Performance

After winning the Croatian Eurovision selection “Dora 2025,” Marko now reveals the major changes he is making to his performance at Eurovision. He reports: “We are changing everything – the costumes, the set, the lighting, the ambiance, and even the story itself. On a stage like Eurovision, we need to present everything in a much clearer and more vivid way.”

Marko also shared who is behind these changes, highlighting the contribution of HELEna Janjušević, the choreographer and creator behind some of his musical works. Together with Kreša, one of the team leaders behind the preparations, they form the backbone of his Croatian performance. Not only that, but Marko has been following his competitors at Eurovision and already has several favorites. “I’m a fan of the contestants from Malta, Finland, and Australia. We can also be considered as having a competitive edge with ‘Poison Cake,’ just like we see in the songs from Australia and Estonia,” he added with a smile.

A Decision to Leave the TV Show

In addition to all of this, Marko decided to withdraw from the TV show “Tvoje lice zvuči poznato” (the Croatian version of “Your Face Sounds Familiar”) due to the time demands for preparing for Eurovision. “I didn’t have time to continue on that show, so we decided to end it,” he explained.

Marko is facing a major challenge at the upcoming Eurovision. The changes to his performance could be a key factor, and whether he will surprise the world remains to be seen. The answer will likely unfold on the Eurovision stage in Basel.

Croatia at Eurovision 2025

“Poison Cake” is the song that will be performed by Marko Bošnjak, who will represent Croatia in the second half of the first semifinal of Eurovision 2025, taking place on May 13 in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the singer along with Bas Wissink, who also wrote “Juno” for the Maltese national selection, Ben Pyne, and Emma Gale, who wrote “Monster” for the Latvian national selection and “Sulale” for the Norwegian national selection. This is the first Eurovision song for these writers. The song is performed in English.

The song describes a story of sweet and dangerous revenge. The lyrics tell of a character who was likely oppressed or exploited and decided to take revenge on those who hurt them by baking a poisoned cake.
