The Moldovan national broadcaster TRM confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2026, after dramatically withdrawing from Eurovision 2025! What will change this year?

The Moldovan national broadcaster TRM officially announced that Moldova will participate in Eurovision 2026, to be held in Vienna, Austria. This confirmation follows its dramatic late-stage withdrawal from Eurovision 2025.

Moldova becomes the 28th country to express interest in joining Eurovision 2026, following Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, LuxembourgMalta, MontenegroNorway, San Marino, SerbiaSweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the host country, Austria.

Moldova withdrew last year over disputes concerning the quality of its national selection contest. At that time, the national broadcaster had already held an audition day involving 26 competing entries, with a date and lineup already set for the final, before the sudden announcement of withdrawal.

This year, the broadcaster sought to apply lessons learned. Its confirmation of participation was accompanied by a detailed email sent to Moldovan artists, announcing greater cooperation between TRM and performers to ensure a higher-quality national selection.

In its statement, the national broadcaster emphasized:

“Dear artists, the Eurovision Song Contest is a unique opportunity for Moldova to present to the world our most treasured values: the talent, music, and creative energy of our artists. This stage gives Moldova the chance to be heard by millions across Europe. TRM warmly invites you to an honest and open discussion on Moldova’s participation in the 70th Eurovision. We want to know how you perceive this competition, whether you plan to take part, and if you have prepared works or ideas for projects. We firmly believe that only together can we create a beautiful and respectable participation that reflects the artistic spirit of our country”.

The meeting, which is expected to shape Moldova’s selection procedure, will be held next Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, at the offices of the national broadcaster.

Moldova in Eurovision 2024

Natalia Barbu represented Moldova in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2024 with the song “In the Middle”, after winning first place in the local national final. The song reached 13th place in the first semi-final, with only 20 points, and did not qualify for the grand final. This is Moldova’s lowest result in Eurovision since 2016, when Moldova reached 17th place in the semi-final.

Eurovision 2026: This will be Moldova’s 20th participation in Eurovision. Moldova joined the competition in 2005 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2017 when SunStroke Project finished in third place with the song “Hey Mamma”.
